I started a build thread on here a long time ago, and things changed a little. Originally I was going to build my 72 GMC longbed into a shortbed P/T truck. Well I sold the GMC after I bought a 68 chevy shortbed. The sale of the GMC funded a portion of the chevy.
So after reading on here and getting so many ideas for years for a 1st gen camaro I want to build, I kinda have been reading on the the truck board to get the specifics.
So anyways, all of the build details are over there : http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=247215
Here's a teaser photo of where I'm currently at:

I'm just about ready to start the painting process. I have a few loose ends to finish up before it goes in. I got some references from the one guy I'm thinking of painting it.

I love these trucks. I want to build either a short bed 2wd with the cab and bed blended into one piece or a 4x4 with about 8" lift. Both opposite ends of the spectrum.
Looks awesome.

Well work has really slowed down over the winter for a few reasons.
I kinda ran out of money. But I just sold my 99 Corvette so that problem is resolved. I'm working on unloading some additional parts I had for it.
Next, I got quotes for paint in the 8-15k range and that pretty much stomped on my dreams of having it done by march (now :) ) I have since found a guy that has quoted me $6k for the paint. So I'm working on finishing up some things before I can take it to him.
The main reason though is my wife is pregnant (due march 13th) so we've been busy taking classes, buying stuff for the baby's room, and setting up his rooms. I'm taking 3 weeks off of work when the little guy is born and I'm planning on taking the truck down to the painter during that time.
The only real progress is I got the cab media blasted back in December. I have a little more welding and grinding on it that the media blasting uncovered, then I'll POR 15 both sides of the floor. I also need to yank out the engine/tranny, and then bolt the cab onto the frame and loosely assemble all of the body to get it down to the body guy. Supposed to take 2 months.
So I'm hoping to be able to take my maiden voyage by the end of the summer!

The truck is now at the painter's. I'm expecting to get it back mid-June.
While it's in "paint prison" I'm working on organizing the garage. I also ordered a different set of spindles to move the front wheels in 1" (cheaper than new wheels). I'm also going to start working on putting my guage cluster together (auto meter guages in the stock bezel).
When I get it back, the thrash will be on to get it on the road by August for a few shows I want to take it to. It probably won't be finished but hopefully at least on the road.

Who makes them and where did you buy them?
You're building a great project and have inspired me to build one myself. Thanks for a the details.

Here is where I'm getting them from. I'm also going to make a custom bracket to allow me to use my LS1 camaro calipers.

It's been awhile since I updated this:
The truck in now up and running. I've taken it for 2 test drives. The initial test drive was good until I got home and there was coolant leaking so I replaced the water pump. The second one went much better with no issues.
Currently the windshield is sitting in place (wedged in there cause the body guy couldn't get it installed) so that will be installed in a day or two.
Carpet should be in shortly also. Then I have a few misc things to finish up and it will be officially on the road. It will still take awhile to completely finish it but after over 2-1/2 years its great to have it on the road.
I ended up running some dual piston aluminum calipers that are replacements for the originals. The camaro calipers just wouldn't fit. I haven't gotten on the brakes real hard yet to see just how good it will stop.
Also, I got an initial alignment a few weeks ago when it wasn't street legal (no tail lights and a few other minor things) so the alignment shop didn't test drive it and my airbags may have not been set 100% to the right height. Anyways it seems a little squirly on the road, and I think I need some negative camber added in (it almost looks like it has a little positive camber now, and some negative will give me more fender clearance :D )

Great looking truck. I want one like that in black with a 4 headlight GMC grill conversion. I like the headlights with the integrated parking lights. Cleans up the front end nicely.

Definitely fix the camber, but you should also have them check the caster, that's more likely to fix the "squirrely" issue. Adding positive caster will give it more stability.

So far 107 miles. No problems other than a accessory belt that I was on the way to the parts store for anyways.
