Hi All,

I have shiny, beautiful paint and before I put my glass back in I really want to shine it up as well. Has anyone ever polished their glass before? I have found the following website, but was wondering if it really works or if there is something out there that works better.

Thanks,
Chris

I polished the windshield of a Plymouth Valiant I once had. Used a product from eastwood. Took a long time to do but the results were pretty good. Now I just buy a new windshield for every old car I buy. If any other glass looks crummy I replace it also. They're usually not that expensive. Night visibility is much better and it makes it feel like a new car when you look out while driving.

I was going to polish / buff my glass too but have since been talked out of doing that by several people.... Y.M.M.V.

New windshield on my Firebird was around $150.

I cleaned the rear one with 4O steel wool and goof off then waxed with carnuba. Didnt polish it but it sure cleaned it up nice.

1967, they had it in stock too. Just headed down a few miles from house and picked it up.

Just a local glass company.

The glass co we use will polish some stuff. But all they really get out are the very minor scratches. Anything that catches your nail we just replace.

Thanks for the info. I figured it was 1st gen stuff since it is so cheap comp to early 2nd gen :(

I replaced the windshield and both door windows in my 70 Firebird and they weren't expensive. Just bought them from local auto glass suppliers.

I've become friends over the years with a guy that does the "we come to you" windshield replacements. Now I have him stop by and remove the orig, do my cleaning/painting or whatever, then call him when I'm ready for the new one. (he drives by my shop daily) I've probably had him do 10-12 cars over the past 8- 10 years so I'm somewhat more of a regular customer. The last one I had him do was my 81 Malibu and it was about 160 installed. 230.00 for a brand new windshield installed seems fair for a 2nd gen if its tinted with an antaena and they come to you.

When you got a quote did you mention that the old one was out, window channel clean, you'd replace the trim etc.? I think thats part of the reason I get mine done at a reduced amount, the guy knows I'll do most of the work. He just stops by, heats up the tube of sealer, runs a bead with the elec caulk gun, I help position the window and he's done!
