I'm part of the Motor Press Guild and had a great opportunity to go to their annual Track Day. It was a blast! If any of you guys are writers for the auto industry...you have to become part of the guild!!!

The event was 2 days of driving some of the baddest 2009 production cars on a road course, an autocross or the city streets. It's their tires, their gas, and their cars. What else could you ask for? I still have a smile on my face. I probably got about 100 laps on the road course in 30 or so different brand new cars. My favorite by far was the Audi R8!

Tony............you didn't happen to see Mary Pozzi at this event did you?

Nope. I wasn't aware that Mary is a writer. If she is, she should sign up. :) Three other P-T.com members were supposed to go, but somehow made excuses not to come race against me. :naughty:

What are the qualification criteria?

You have to be a published writer for an automotive based publication a few times within 12 months of applying for the MPG. There's more info here:

They are fairly strict and will check references. And if you want to drive in the Track Day, you have to be "Full-Journalist" status. PR and other members can only ride along on the track and street driving.

If you spin the car or go off into the dirt, you get you driving privilege revoked for the rest of the event. If you damage a car, you get banned for 2 years and you get "labeled" by your journalist peers. So driving at 9 tenths is not a good idea. You can have plenty of fun at 8 tenths. :)

Next year, you can bet that they'll have the New Camaro at the event in a few different model levels and maybe a ZR1. :drive1: ...but now I'm kind of messed up. After driving the Audi R8, I can't get the car out of my head. ...the fricken awesome feel of control on the track with the power and performance of the AWD.

Sounds like alot of fun, although I'm sure with your experience you could have started at 8/10ths and worked your way up to 9.5/10ths. :)
