Stereo Weight?

I was wondering if anyone was concerned with the weight of their stereos? I have had subwoofers that weighed 30lbs but never installed them because I didn't want to decrease handling and etc. Ideally I'd like to just do speakers, but it will never sound as great as it would with a sub. Does anyone know anyone that makes lightweight enclosures or subwoofers?

how much boom do you need? obviously the louder it's gonna be the heavier it is....

as for the box.. i'd say the lightest you're gonna get is a fibreglass box... but I don't know if anyone pre makes those.

I was thinking fiberglass I guess, but i was more concered about which lightweight subwoofers were out there. I know elemental designs makes a 10'' subwoofer 250watts rms and is 7lbs and people say it bumps. I might get two of them. But then i was also considering just getting a 12'' free air. I want something that will keep up with my speakers when i crank up the stereo with the windows down. I have had loud systems before but never anything light.

One of those deals where it's form over function. I don't want to add extra weight but I want my tunes. If it adds 50 pounds I'm ok with that.

Keep in mind alot of the stereo equipment is installed at the back of the car - right where it needs to be. These cars are way to nose heavy.

Still not ideal, but it may not be as bad as you think.

Thats kind of what I was thinking too. An 8-10" sub in a box weighs about what, 30lbs? Add a small amp and 6x9's back there and it's worth it IMO.

I hate to say it but Pound for Pound Bazoka tubes arn't too bad.

All the opinions are valid.

Musclecar with big engine means stereo has to be loud enough to hear or no stereo.

Quick car with good handling means low weight.

Compromise for me will be that trick Alpine controller for my iphone. A punchy 4 channel amp. 6.5's in the kicks. USD Horn tweeters along the base of the dash, loud enough for an outdoor PA system. You'll never drown the roar of a loud V8 with bass and keep the stereo light at the same time.

But treble can overcome the Procharger whine. (You may need ear plugs for long trips! Horns are sensitive.110db)

A removable 10" JL Audio or similar extreme excursion sub.
It will be light enough not to matter and loud enough to hear. Oh and all but invisible as I like the interior to look old, racy but close to stock.
