So , who makes diesel powered cars for the U.S. Market ?
I've been looking on the Audi and VW websites and all I see is the Jetta and New Beetle.
Are there any others available ?
Audi has been kicking butt in the American LeMans Series with the Audi R10 V-12 TDI .
But I don't see any new models for sale.
Hmmmmm .....

Subi is supposed to import a Legacy Outback wagon in diesel next year.
Mini has one that may come next year as well.
BMW will be importing 3 and 5 series diesels.
Ford has three great ones in Europe.....but won't import them.

I think it is only the 3 series and an X5. The 335d makes 430 lb/ft of torque. Oh yeah!

The 5-series I rented in the UK was simply brilliant.

That's the info I'm looking for !
I've looked at every manufacturers website , but they don't list any diesel models.
I was so impressed with the Audi R10 I saw at Petite LeMans.
Makes me want a TDI model , but none are available.
I feel ripped off that Ford will not sell there diesels over here.
Hell , I'd like to do a diesel conversion on my S10 !

The jetta was suppose to be pretty good for mileage back in the early 2000. I thought about getting one. Wish I did. I think they stopped them back in 06 b/c of the new regulations that happened in 07. 08 should be the newest diesels.

Honda is going to have their diesel accord / acura TSX diesel over here soon. In Europe it gets like 50+ MPG and you don't have to add urea like on some of the VW's and others.

The retarded EPA smog laws are whats keeping diesels out of the market.
With diesel fuel costing as much as 30% more than gasoline, the vehicle has to get at least 30% better economy to break even, and with the additional expenses of urea injection and all the other crap diesels are getting choked with I don't see the US market supporting diesels for awhile.

That is assuming that the diesel engine does not cost anymore than the standard engine. Most diesels are at least a couple grand extra. Assuming diesel fuel will stay around 30% more than gas, these diesels need to get significantly more than 30% better fuel eficiency to break even.

Too bad the Audi is not coming here. You'll just have to settle for the 4.2 gas version.........loaded up for about $82k
