Is it me or did I see in one of the threads where someone (maybe Fesler) built a billet tail light assembly for a '68 that had horizontal slots cut into them for the lights? Maybe not but I've searched and cannot find anything on this.

he just finished the 69 RS taillights that have the horizontal slots. He's working on 67/8 but haven't seen any pics yet.

While they are very nice, the price ($500) might put it out of budget for some (including me). I saw the ones on Larry's car a couple of months ago at Frank's shop and they are 10x nicer in person. At least the 69 ones are more economical.......
BTW, Flash68, that looks good!

500 is a little steep. I think WegneR MotorsportS will machine a 5"x3"x18" BlocK of 6061 Alum into ValvE covers for around the same price. WheN maching alum., most of the cost, is material. CnC Machines buzz around alumn. like cookie cutters. With that said a 3" thick piece of alumn. cost about 10 times more than a .5 inch thick piece. Somebody is way proud of their labor? :secret: But never the less it is cool; just a little steep.
Marquez looks diecasted which keeps the manufacturing cost very low compared to machining. But the quality is not the same as a piece of machined T-6061 Alumn. IMO, I would buy the machined ones? But I don't have a car either??
Whatever floats your boat? They are all nice pieces!

Those are not diecast they are 6061 and there is about 2 hours of machine time per light. Plus bead blasting, polishing, and assembly
that is not that bad of price for the amount of work involved.

I think your right it takes a fair amount of time and materials to make that part. From that perspective the effort justifies the cost. I think the other side of this is 500.00 for tiail lights is tough to justify. IMHO its NUTS!
Bottomine for me is the comes a point in a cars life when these tail lights might be a good thing to consider. That is usually around the time when everything else on the car is already top of the line and the new $$ owner is scratching his head looking for somthing to buy for the car that makes it "his"

Yep and some folks spend money on a new roof for there house while others a new outfit even though they need a new roof. It just matters what is important to you looking Fly or staying dry.
If 500.00 tail lamps make you whole... rock on..
Just to be clear anyone spending the time and materials that it takes to make these things deserves to get 500.00. It is the people that pay for them that make me wonder...

I think that could be said about this whole hobby. Some people spend it on A$$, some on gambling, some blow it up there nose. I do not think these parts are for someone needing a new roof or needing to be whole. These are for people that want the best you can buy and are willing to pay for it. I see the money people must have in there cars in just hard parts and I wonder how they pay for it. Lets face it, I would like a built LS7 and new front subframe ,but to go to your point, I need to pay for the roof on my house.

Per Lillard Manufacturing....
-The parts start as 1.25 thick aluminum, not .50. The material is about $60 bucks for a pair. Material for a 5x3x18 valve cover is about $135.
-The trim piece is machined and polished as a completely separate part.
-A valve cover has a much short cycle time because there's no 3D contouring. Just 2D profiling, pocketing, and facing. The ball endmill has to go around each taillight 859 times. Or 1700 times for a pair.
-The parts are obviously not die cast. Even if they were, they would be more expensive than they are now, because you'd need $80,000 in die cast tooling.
