I'm still trying to track down a pic of the car down that this amazing LT-5 now lives in...wow!

For me instead of finding a motor for a car, I'd find a car for this motor.

I like how they removed the Corvette badges from the cam covers and the paint choices for the engine.

Put in Corvettes in the late 80's early 90's- 4 cam special motor built by Lotus for a model called ZR1.

Guy I knew in Cali tracked a similiar era Corvette- he had a buddy that sent the engine back to England for rebuild and was still waiting 2 years later....

They had maxed out with 405 hp when the ZR-1 run ended in 1995. Headers, chip, aluminum flywheel, port the intake and heads and you have 500bhp from the stock 350 cid. Still holds endurance racing records. Thankfully enough fanatic owners who have taken it upon themselves to find solutions for supplying parts since GM stopped supporting the motor.

'90-95 ZR-1 owners like to fantasize about what if...Chevy had kept the LT-5 and continued to increase cid and the power levels and the C6 Z06 used a 427 cid LT-5.

If anyone wants to see the guts of an LT-5 they are quite a sight. This one is being prepped to be a high hp twin turbo motor 2 LT-5 guys have designed a kit for.

ummm im pretty sure the LT-5 was built and assembled by Mercury Marine in the U.S...Gm did work with Lotus engineers on the design though

I believe I read that some owners in the US sent their engines to England for work. The only reason would be because the ground floor design expertise guys were there. Don't doubt it but its odd because I thought guys like Doug Rippie and John Lingenfelter were into them fairly soon after the ZR-1's hitting the market.

Could be. I understand Lotus did a pile of the design work, and now that I think about it I think you're right they don't have manufacturing capability for a series production engine (after all, the Elise uses series motors from other manufacturers). The Mercury Marine connection is believable, in the 60's MM was casting the blocks for the Buick aluminum V8
