Been at it all evening. Picked me up a gravity fed gun today. Talk about a difference!
I sure hope the hell I get used to using it prior to actually painting the car.
LOL!
Anyway, Got the inner fenders finally cut in. Im ready to put em back on probably tommorrow
after they dry real good. I went ahead and painted the rocker panels as they are the
roughest part on the whole car next to my firewall art!
I went ahead and cut the rocker panels in cause I knew the passenger side is going to need
some skimming in. I figgured since black shows everything, id go ahead and shoot em
the final flat I plan on painting em with, let is dry real good, skim the few low spots and
reshoot a couple more times. Ought to be fine by then. No I don't plan on leaving the black
overspray on the door hehehe.. :secret:

Well I was on a roll like butter today when the compressor decided to poop out on me on the
last couple of passes on the hood. Have no idea what happend. It did not throw a breaker,
and Ive hit the reset button, but no go. It tries to fire up, then nothing.
So that is the second time the compressor has laid down on me while trying to paint.
May have to stop the project long enough to figgure out how im going to either rent one or
buy another. Woe is me.

Angel Update
Well today I picked me up a small 22 gal 5hp compressor at a local pawn shop.
Picked it up for $125 which is about as much as I would have had to put into the other one
that quit. Good thing about this one is it will keep up with me pretty much so that is a
plus in itself.
Got a layer of primer on it today. I still have a few spots that keep turning up over and
over again, maily the same areas I have worked and reworked about upteenth million time.
Lol.. Not sure how that happens. Anyway, wont be too terribly bad. Still have a few small
spots to fix. I should be able to knock most of those out tommorrow. For all tense and
purposes im about 97% ready to paint. Next door buddy happens to know someone in his church
that works for english color, so he is trying to hook me up a bargain on my material.
My guestimate is I will have the car painted by thanksgiving weather and finances
permitting. That will still throw me a month a head of planned schedule.

I am considering this as well. They have nice ones at the local hardware store for about $20...
You can park a car under em. Plenty of room, and would be a cheap fix for the issue. I don't really feel like spending extra time just to sand bugs trash and debris out of the paint..
So yes, thanks for reminding me about this.
In fact it is in my day to day diary to use this method.
I have given up finding any cold hard facts on the stripe dimensions.
Even looking at the factory assembly manual, the numbers are greek to me. Like .24, .1.18, .14, .2.08 ect.
I think they (Chevrolet) were smokin crack back in the day as either I am either way too ignorant to figgure it out, or its some sort of code.
I can read a ruler fairly well in both 10ths and normal scales.
I think 1968 was too early for them to be metric listings and measurements. If someone can open theyre factory assembly book and decipher for me, in laymens terms I am all ears. If you need a page or a revision date I can get that too. Ill even go to the length
of trying to scan a page.

Angel Update.
Well not much done but its been a long exhausting weekend.
Managed to get the deck lid lined up finally, and was able to scuff it down.
Was not ready to shoot any primer this weekend as its been cloudy, overcast and cool.
Once I got the trunk lined up, I pulled it back off, removed the spoiler, reset the lid and
scuffed. All I got to do now is git it in primer. Moved up to the front section of the car
today and got 90% of the screw up (dont ask) taken off down to bare metal again.
I got a little more cleanin to do on the fender sides. Once I get all that ol paint off
I am going to pull the valance panel and header panel again to clean those two parts up.
Hopefully if I don't get any time in out it during the week, Ill be able to spend a few
hours on it thurs after I stuff my gut with turkey of course! Gobble Gobble!

Well the Texas weather started off warm around 12pm. Id guess it was around 70 degrees when
I started to primer the body panels. By the time I got done the temperature had dropped to
56 degrees. Thats how it is in Texas. If you don't like the weather, wait a minute and it
will change.

Angel Update:
Got the front fenders blocked again. Next week I will try and reprimer the front fenders,
valance and header and rear tail and trunk lid. On sunday I should be able to take 400 grit
to the fenders, header, valance, roof qtrs, and tail panel. Need to work a little more
getting the alignment on the valance panel if ill be dammed if after all the bolt holes on
the driver side do not line up perfectly. They are off about an 1/8 to 1/4 inch. Needless to
say, I dont have anyway of moving the holes around one way or another, so it will have to
do. I still need to put in new front end hardware, bolts and bushings. I am leaving the
whole front end installed loosely that way when I go to break all the parts back down after
paint I wont have to worry too much about breaking the paint seal on the gaps, it will
alreay be loose and will give me an area in between the gaps to get a good paint coverage.
The trunk lid as a small shallow spot about the size of the end of your thumb I will need to
fill. Block all the rocker areas with 400. I am about 98% there. I could paint it now
probably other than the shallow spot on the trunk lid. Ill probably spend at least one more
week after next weekend, trying to go over everything and look for sore spots, or spots that
need more attention. Other than that, she is ready to be blue as far as im concerned.

So close but so far!
11 Days to go!
I lack a few spots at least that I know of.
The drip rail is slightly bent on the driver side, that I need to straighten,
the rockers need a tad bit of more work.
The roof needs to be gone over again with 400 grit, and I need to go over the parts I
painted today with 400 grit.
And there is a small spot on the trunk that needs a tad bit of fill where I have grinding
marks from shaving down a high spot.
Other than that it's pretty much ready to spray.
Its going to be colder than a witche's Tittie in Montanna tommorrow.
No luck in doing it tomorrow.
I am so tempted to run down to the paint store pick up the paint and spray today,
but im afraid Ill regret it. Still could pull the fenders and valance in too.

I got started on the cutting.
Started out on 1000 grit using both my durablock and this new kind of hook and loop block
and pep boys. Using the durablock to get the heavier stuff off, and the new block to get the
lighter easier peel. Going along pretty good being the rear qtrs are the roughest parts on
the whole car. The doors and roof will go a lot quicker. The passenger qtr took me pretty
much the remainder of the day as the peel was pretty bad, and the sections of run.
I got all the run out without having to use the razor blade.
Can't wait to make it all the way around the car, and use the 1500 and 2500.
Ill post as I can.

I never thought about that.
There are bound to a lot of glass out there that is not going to be used, IE car totaled out ect.
If anyone has a stock pile of it, please send me a pm as I could use the glass. I do have some parts that maybe I can swap for stuff as well, not a whole lot, but some.
As far as the fast ratio steering gear from like a 3rd gin, it would work about the same would it not? How about installation of it?

i noticed the blue water under the car.
Its a reflection of other material
Its a long story, but the clear coat is fine.
I just wanted to comment on something.
I have gotten quite a few responses on the "Other Thread" that was closed earlier today forwhatever reason the thread was closed. I just wanted to let each and everyone of you that do seem to be genually (speller) concerned
that I am grateful, and I think you know who you are.
I don't wish to high jack this thread by getting on the (other topic)
but it seems that a few of you that do have family are concerned that my priority should first be family. Understood. But its just Me,
Mystic Angel, (The car) and a girlfriend here. O yea! I forgot I have a dog! LOL...
Now back to the project and task at hand....
Updates this weekend w/ more pics.

Taking off my moderator hat.
Before you start throwing my name, and copied PM's (PRIVATE messages) around let me make one thing abundantly clear to you.
I have a deep philosophical problem with you even remotely worried about your car when your CC is maxed and you have no job. You mention a girlfriend (and presumably a home that you own or at least rent) that is in your life. Your first responsibility is to your family and then to your financial obligations.
Concentrate on getting back to work.
I've been through what you are going through right now. I've been laid off three times (Silicon Valley is like that) in the time I have been on this board. I have been working on my car for 8 years and planing it for 30 years. It's nowhere near running. In that time I have also built a house for my wife and I. The house construction loan and the layoffs meant I couldn't work on the car. It meant I had to take jobs (sometimes 2 at a time) that weren't what I wanted to do. But in that time I never spent more than a week out of work never missed a payment, never bought anything I couldn't afford and never, ever, asked someone else to accept any of my burden. Thankfully it never came to it, but if it had I would have sold my car (I have a '68 Camaro as well) in a second.
I mean these are toys we are talking about. I understand that they are important to us, but they are just things. And just because we really want something does not mean we are entitled to it nor does it mean that it's a good idea at the time. Your focus should be on taking care of your family and on your financial obligations. If that means putting aside the car for a while or even selling it then that is what you have to do as a man.
Putting my Moderator Hat back on
Now I'm a pretty understanding guy, I feel for you. As I mentioned to you in one of the PM's we exchanged, I've given away the entire drivetrain from my car to people who needed them. I figured it was better to give them away then hassle with selling them for their rather meager worth. There are people on this board who I'm pretty sure would do the same.
I’ll tell you what I’ll do: I'll re-open your thread and move it to the "Wanted" section of the classified on the following conditions.
You promise to keep your priorities centered around your responsibilities as a man, not the car.
You reset your expectations on the parts you are looking for to a set of used, take-off glass and asking if someone can help you find a salvage quick-ratio box from a late model F-body.
If someone is willing to provide help beyond that then that is their decision, but I think it's in really poor taste to insult our vendors by requesting new parts for a driveway built car through the guise of your financial problems.

You have 24hrs to edit the post once I have put it in the "Wanted" section or I'll delete it.

What a freakin mess.
Lol....I think I had trash in my clear.. Lots of cirlce rings that I can not get out, no
matter how hard I scratch it. Looks like water rings when you let water dry on a car...
They look to be underneath the clear..Not sure how it happened. All over the car....
O well.. Im going to cutt the car the best I can polish it out, and maybe do it again with
3500 this summer. If still got a few spots I messed but then again, I still got to go all
the way around the car.
So the tail panel and trunk lid is done for now, and the driver side quarter. Just gonna hit
it with some machine glaze and call it done.. https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2009/02/000_0207-1.jpg

Im still seeing orange peel!
Maybe 3 times + will be the charm. Then I can start adding things like bumpers and tail
lights maybe this weekend.

Paint is done. First time to paint a car folks, and painted in my driveway without the aid of a garage or help from others.

NICE! Is it blue or green?
Both. Its Mystic Teal Poly. Some of the 05 escalades (They call it a different name) are this color. It looks dark blue until the sun gets right on it, then it changes to green in the bright sunlight. Its a factory GM color changing paint.
