Even if it wasn't fake, I doubt it's ruin their life. They may be PO'd now, but in 10 years look back and laugh. :)
I do agree that it seems staged. The "surprise" the BM had when the minister asked for the rings seemed a little forced.

I think that would be a good way to save the wedding , very symbolic as well
