O.K I have this 1970 nova that i got for 1000 bucks. it runs great but as you can see it needs some work. so with my camaro build going on i dont have the money right now to dig into this one nor the room. so i was thinking of doing the rat rod mod if you would call it that. maybe a old style sign on the door lower it. spindles and blocks to keep the cost down and i just got a set of ralley wheels with flat caps and a 2in cowl hood. but the thing is i have never seen anyone do that to this generation nova, not that i want to be like someone else but would this body stlye and generation of nova fit the part??? like i said just a idea to make something a little bit cooler for little to no money for now. input wanted.

Thanks Brandon

I like everything except the door lettering. IMO door lettering is only for pickups made before 1972 or cars made before 1957.

clean the body up a little bit throw primer on it do the cheap lowering and call it a day.

I wouldn't even primer it. Just throw some cool looking wheels on it and slam it. and make sure it runs well, haha.

I like the wheels that are on it now. Just lower it and make sure the exhaust sounds good. Let nature take care of the paint.

Sounds like you got a plan, go for it!
It should look good lowered.
To save money, go with the wheels that are on it. They're cool.

quite the car, wow!......certainly not "budget" though

I wish people would stop trying to fool people with dogdish hubcaps......that might have worked......like 20 yrs ago!
if you want to fool somebody put on a set of crusty old Cragar SSs with no centre caps or better yet some old aluminum 5 slots:cheers:

Brandon bud, you and I are on the same wave-length man.

I personally think that kind of lo-buck look will keep coming up to the late 60's cars with increasing popularity.

Definitely lower it, put a great exhaust sound on it, get some black paint on the underside of those wheel-wells, and you certainly could use those rims. Personally, I think you should do the black primer thing but I leaving the paint alone isn't so bad.

I plan on doing up an old Impala convertible much like your goals for the Nova.

Don't primer it, leave the paint just like that.
put better tires on it or flip them to black side & slam it.

I would keep those wheels and lower it and I think it would be sick.

I'd skip the lettering, leave it green and dented, lower it a bit and have a ball.

Sounds like a plan. Only instead of primer and lettering, I would leave it green and do a faded Yenko stripe with antique white paint. Then use the word Junko instead of Yenko. Find some swap meet Torq Thrust D's and never wash them.

And if you really want to piss people off get those yellow carpool stickers like the hybrid cars for your rear bumper and rear quarter panel, with a loud or rumbly exhaust.Thats if you live in California!!! That would be sick!!! LOL

Ah, a patina car... I've been dreaming of doing one myself, but don't have the time or money, and it'd be a Ford for me. With your Nova, I'd just lower it and drive it. Don't change the wheels! They'r classically retro without looking like you're trying (which the rallyes will). Just lower it, make sure it runs well, is reliable, and is safe, but otherwise, let it go...

BritishGreen68
10-10-2008, 05:54 PM
primer will only make it look worse and I personally would leave the flat hood on it but ya it could be cool with the right stance and wheels. Anything looks good with the right wheels and height..

WILWAXU- thats one clean ride. those wheels look sweet. what size adapters did you use? Thanks!

Fronts are 2" and the rears are 1.5" on the drivers side and 1" on the passengers side.

You could run a smaller tire in the back and just do 2" spacers all the way around. I wanted to stuff the 275's in the back, so I had to tinker with the spacing.

O.K just a small update on project keep it cheap.. I got some ralley wheels and new tires for the car aswell as a 2in cowl hood. I still need to do some floor pan work and stuff. but for putting for all new brakes complete tune up and trans service with car cover and all new key cylinders and ignition, the gran total so far is $2,114 thats with the cost of the car. I dont think thats to bad for what i have so far.
