Just saw in the current issue they're taking applicants.
Anyone going to try to make the cut? :bananna2:

I'd like to try competing in slalom/auto-x/road course and braking portions of the RSE.
But my car isn't pretty enough, gets lousy gas mileage and doesn't even have a radio.

I am not sure where you heard this rumor, but RSE XV is on schedule. So send your entries in!
Here is the link to the rules page, along with an entry form.

Everyone has a chance to be selected, since it will be up to the readers of Car Craft to pick the competitors. Show and shine is only a small portion of the judging and fuel economy is not even considered.

Evil Spirit was the first entry, according to Frieburger.
No I'm not driving it, but I wish I was.

Well I certainly hope that people enter. It should be a lot of fun!
Andrew
How many cars do they accept? I would like to enter my pick-up, but it looks very stock on the outside.

Kurt,
Your turbo pick-up will be a killer vehicle for RSE. Read over the rules on the Car Craft website. I believe this year there will be 7 competitors. In past years, the editors picked the competitors from all the entries. This year, readers will be allowed to pick the car they want to see competing through the Car Craft website.
Here is some "Retro" RSE coverage:

They are not judging on fuel economy, so don't let that be an excuse not to enter. As for ugly, that is only one part of the competition. You can score dead last in the beauty pagent and still win if your car is put together well and it performs!

Call me a wuss, but I think I'll pass this time.
Everything on my car is half-ass'ed right now - temporary tires/rims, temporary suspension setup, temporary brakes, etc.
I certainly don't want people to think this is the best I can do. That wouldn't be good for future business.
If CarCraft continues to do RSE, I'll try it when my car is in more satisfactory condition.

My car is too ugly, too loud, and gets too little gas milage...
But I'll kill anyone in the gymkana

I don't remember then saying they were testing for gas milage.

Gas mileage... Yeah... I think they used to. I wonder why they stopped.
My car is not nice enough to enter. It's more of a driver... when it's running. And my interior is totally in shambles. Too much writing, not enough wrenching.

I would dearly love to enter my '82 Mercury Cougar sedan in RSE, but I haven't even finished disassembly yet, much less piecing it back together! I have some definite plans as to what I want to do with it, but due to my Dad becoming increasingly ill, I have had to postpone this.
Maybe next year....................

Interior amenities.
Does that mean steering wheel and pedals? Cuz that is all my car will ever have.

Yeah, it's very unfortunate. I myself don't see a point of spending a lot of money modifying a car if I was afraid of proving its capability.
I just chickened out this time b/c I haven't spent enough money on my car yet :)

well, I am going to see where it is at. I was going to do it last year, but I could not get my car running decent until the end of the year. I want to this time, but another "iffy" is that my wifey is now knocked up and the due date is Sept 23.
Dooh!!

The exact site has yet to be announced, but its supposed to be in the midwest. I can't imagine that it will be more than 500 miles from you.

I just sent in the entry form. My car is posted in vBGarage. It probably won't get in, being it's one of those Camaros.
- I emailed the entry form to Car Craft but it keeps getting returned withe the following message - The recipient was unavailable to take delivery of the message. I tried making the picture attachments smaller but that got returned also. I guess I'll try sending it again Monday.
I put some chrome 20's on my truck and shot a few pics. If they don't pick it, at least I got new wheels! Probably slim chance of them picking a 5500 pound PU.

Anyone can be picked since it is up to the readers to pick the entries.
I entered too.
Andrew
The way I understood it was, the magazine somehow picks a high number of entry's then the voting picks the final list of cars.

I entered My name is Phil And I may not get picked either but my car is a 1965 corvair with a 2000 modified lS1 and a C5 corvette transaxle running Midship, and its ugly right now but lets see what happens? I dont have any new pic's loaded but I need to. I would love to compete in this event.

I heard they're trying for IRP which is by Indy.
I'd vote to have it at Gateway by St Louis. I also heard not too many entries. My son entered "Y Gen 3rd Gen"

I heard that there were not very many entries. Shame on everyone on this site that has a running car and did not have a desire to enter.
Maybe Freiburgers comments in Hot Rod a while back were right on the money.

What sort of safety tech is required for RSE? I have a running car, but I have nothing other then the factory lap belts.
Is there a rule book anywhere?

Everything was spelled out on the Car Craft website. Entries were supposed to be in by April 1st.

That is a shame. I tried when I had a running car. Don't have one this year, but I'll try to do the event next year, if the happens again. With the lack of entries, I hope they don't ditch it.
I guess this can be un-stickied.

For me, the costs for 4500 miles gas + trailer + hotels + food + misc. to travel from So. Cal to the midwest outweigh the reasons to compete. Sure, bragging rights are great, but finanical and family responsibilities come first.

That would be a long haul. I live in the mid-west, so it should be pretty close. If they do have it at St. Louis, I'll try to attend as a spectator.
Does anyone know when the voting starts?

Maybe I'm making a generalization here, but it seems that a lot of the more serious cars are here in California. That is a long drive to compete. If it were on the west coast, that might be a different story. Most of us don't have the time or money to drive across the country. I have a friend with a '68 firebird who was pretty into the idea last year, but when I told him that it was in Tennesee it was no longer an option. Those of you in the midwest have no excuse, lets see some action!

Check out the August issue of Car Craft for the 25 cars that made the first cut. They will be posted on the Car Craft website in a little while so that everyone can vote for the 7 cars they want to see competing.
