Isaac Mion who shoots and writes for Super Chevy as well as other publications invited us to have some photos taken of the 67 Chevelle we did for a client.
He saw the car at several local shows including the Colorado Good Guys event, where the car was fortunate enough to have won a couple of major awards.
We were told many times that they were not interested in trailer queens, which meant we drove the 160 mile trip to the shoot, which was a working cement plant with large mounds of sand for the backdrop.
The ideal lighting was just before sunset, which meant a memorable cross-town rush hour drive through Denver's notorious traffic. The lumpy 496 BB (722 HP/680TQ) was put to the test in a bumper to bumper/stop and go traffic nightmare! Issac actually rode in the car from his house to the shoot, doing the interview on the way.
Anyway, I was surprised at how long a proper shoot takes...it went well into the night.
Also I found out how the shots are taken of the wheels turning with the car being pushed. A magnetic boom was attached under the car and the 12 second exposure gives the illusion of speed.

I shoot for many of the Source titles, one of them being Super Chevy, and It takes owners by surprise when you tell them that the shoot will take up to 8-10 hrs to do it right. It's really important that the time is taken to get all the shots needed by the titles, plus the time of day is real important for the best light. I have shot at sunrise to sunset on some occasions. The time and effort makes all the difference. I treat every car I shoot the same. I have shot cars by Rad Rides by Troy to the guy in his garage. I treat every car with the same respect and attention to detail, cause let's face it, whether you write a check or build it yourself you still put alot of time, money and yourself into these cars and they all deserve the respect to have a thorough photoshoot done when they are chosen to be featured.

I have thought about making one of those booms to take some pics like that of my car, but I have a problem putting $3000 worth of camera equipment out there like that. But I guess if you are going really slow & leave the exposure open for 12 seconds like you say it wouldn't be bad.
Nice car!

Congratulations on the well deserved photo shoot. The car looks killer and has a ton going for it but like I always say, wheels and stance are everything!

12 seconds is a little long. But you don't leave the camera on the rig, you walk with it and hold the strap incase it comes loose. I have done this hundreds of times, never had a problem

I just noticed that. Shows that I only look at the car and the photo procedure. I was trying to stay out of the way.
Because I'm in a good mood I'm going to laugh that off, my wife knows better. I didn't even see that until you mentioned it. :lmao:
