SLP has decided to use the "Firehawk" logo on something other than a Firebird. They plan to put it on a 4-door sedan, the Pontiac G8. They will also offer a six-cylinder version.

Thoughts? Keep this constructive, you guys are apparently the income/age demographic they are shooting for. Thanks

lame. They own the name sure but Firehawk goes with Firebird. It doesn't even sound right to say Firehawk G8. They should have chosen a better name. No amount of power or sales can make a name fit.

I am happy they have a GM RWD V8 car to do this type work to though. I wish them well because they made some fantastic cars out of the Fbodies.

It's not right to put that emblem on the car.

Since Ed stated that they are already in the works and there's no turning back, they better at least be pretty impressive.

The GXP G8 looks good.

I dunno.

A v-6 Firehawk is kinda weak, but I would rock a GXP with firehawk badging.

color me unimpressed. This car doesn't need a gimmicky name or badge to be awesome. They should have come up with something new. This car deserves to stand on it's own, and carve it's own identity.

it looks like a lancer evo:barf:
it'd be cool to bring back the name, but shouldn't it be on something sporty looking? it might work with the solstice. maybe with an LS9?

The dudes at SLP have to eat too.

Considering that the Firebird is forever gone, why not recycle the name?

Does the name sell the car, or do the performance enhancements? The only people that might appreciate "Firehawk" as a name are the very guys that SLP is pissing off with this decision.

Had the Camaro died, would you want to see a Malibu Z28? If they stop making Z06 Corvettes would a Cobalt Z06 be suitable?

Supercharged? Yummy. Wonder if it's the Magnuson version...

I would have liked a new name. Seems there is less and less new imagination, and more and more reliance on the imagination of those from the past.

Maybe... Firechicken...or Firechick...Fireturkey... Nothing against SLP. My SS Camaro was a great car. The only reason I sold it was to get the Z06. I doubt anyone else would think that was a bad reason. I would still have the SS otherwise.

Fully agree.

As a strong supporter of SLP (we have a 2002 & 1995 Firehawk & a 2002 SS Vert) I appreciate SLP trying to stay relevant in the market but a "new" name is in order for the G8.

I know Pontiac cannot even think of a name for the suedo-El-Camino-Pontiac-G8 thinga magiggy they have in the works and have asked the public to offer some ideas. But I figured SLP could come upo with something cool, all the while keeping the Firehawk name plate with the Firebird.

I applaud the effort SLP, but a new name should have been conjured up. Suggestions?

If SLP offers more performance upgrades with the "Firehawk G8" then who cares about the name. You can always remove the Firehawk emblem for those that don't like it.

who cares, PMD is dead in a few years anyway. GM & SLP are whoring the name IMO. Plus, I think the whole 'firehawk' concept misses the intended g8 audience.

IMO the firehawk name was dilluted with the 4th gen - not much more than a sticker package.

The Firehawk name was an SLP creation, unlike SS Z28 which were GM's. What other car would they put it on.

The third-gen Firehawk was my earliest Pro-Touring influence -- it was a brilliant transformation, with good looks that were a result of staggering performance upgrades. In comparison, the fourth-gen was more an appearance package with very mild handling and power upgrades.

This outrage over the "watering-down" of the badge should have happened fifteen years ago.

If SLP performs half the magic they did on the third-gens, I think we are in for a treat.

I have driven the G8. The only reason I didn't buy one is because I don't have that much throw away money saved up yet. I think the GT is more than deserving of the Firehawk moniker. The v6, not so much.

I don't know at what point gas will get expensive enough for me to want a healthy V6 over an LS1, but maybe SLP is ahead of the curve on this one. Then again, I would take a GNX in a heartbeat.
Considering we are actually experiencing fuel shortages, and at Pigeon Forge this year we hit five bucks a gallon, at some point a few extra mpg will start to be very appealing -- I am thinking somewhere around seven or eight dollars a gallon.

For me it pretty simple.

Fire bird = Fire hawk
Hawk replacing the bird. The hawk being a "Bird of Prey" just meant it was higher performance car.

G8 needs a different name.
