Random editorial time...
Sometimes it's easy to blow things off when they get tricky, assuming that you can leave the mess for the next person to work on it. We've all been on the receiving end of this, where someone hacked something together, only to have it explode when it's your turn to work on it. Stripped bolts & nuts, bad wiring, poorly installed or assembled parts all can make you really mad when you encounter them left behind be the previous owner of your project car. This rant speaks to doing things right the first time, because you may be the next person to work on it! Make it easy for yourself and lose the "leave it for the next A-hole" mentality... you may be the "next A-hole!"

I just find that when you go through something a second time, sometimes you look back and say "why didn't I do this better the first time!"

Remember the saying "If you don't have time to do right the first time, will you have time the second time around" I have seen many a botch job being in the auto repair industry.

I am TOTALY realizing that on the Nomad..... It takes waaay longer to do it right than to do it ok! I am constantly going back on crap on the Camaro and redoing things that I half assed the first time. The wagon is a different story, I am trying to do everything once only on it. I have found out that it takes alot more time, but I'm sure it will make me happier in the end.

I did my car for the second time, so been there, done that.
to be honest there are still/again things I would do differently the next time.

I can totally relate.... Recently pulled the carb to check out some intake "issues". Whilst reinstalling the carb, I did not take the time to fit the carb flange bolt back in quite right. Kept dorking with it until I finally cross threaded the hole. So once the damage was done (and of course in a hurry) I just torqued the bolt down tight. Now I have to go back, pull the carb, pull the intake, helicoil the hole, replace the intake gasket and reassemble and hope that everything seals up right.
I AM the next A-hole....

That's the right motto to get repeat and new customers. Best advertising anyone can get is impressing people with your quality of work. That kind of word gets around real quick.
Funny thing about my build is, doing it right the first time with the right parts has slowed me down to a crawl because of a tight budget. I have real nice parts and keeping up the quality has me in the poor house. :nopity:
Someday, though, I will drive the car and it will be all worth it!!!
Chris, someday, I'd like to come down and see your shop. You have some nice stuff coming out of there.

I have been around people that just hate it when a temporary fix last forever and looks good too :pat:
When they tell you it took twice as long to fix as the last guy. The best thing to say is that, it will hopefully last twice as long as it did for the last guy :spank2:
It takes time and putting up with a lot of crap to finally get to the point that when something needs to get fixed right, whatever right is, they come and get you to fix it when you are soooo slow in the eyes of those who who can fix it in just a minute.
It's the tortise and the hare mentality to repairs that is the root of the problem. Instant gratification is not always total satisfaction.

You can come by anytime to check it out as we always have some cool stuff going on. We just finished the Nova paint and should be done with the Mustang in a week or so. SEMA is just around the corner as you know.
