Here you go, final results for the autocross. I'll try and get the drag strip results up tomorrow.

Cone strikes added a +1 second penalty per Bill:

That must'a been some Impala. Plus Mr. Munsey obviously can drive the wheels off it. Six runs and not a single cone?
Wow!!

Car #74 Nova. Been racking my brain trying to figure out what car this is......Duh! It's II Much. Great times, but keep in mind that it was not in the running because it did not use min 200 tread wear tires. II Much was running on R compound tires. Great times anyway for the car's first competitive outing and despite a few mechanical gremlins.

So that makes the top five min 200 treadwear tires in order as follows:
-Kyle Tucker Detroit Speed 2nd Gen #12: 35.401
-Phil Gerber Roadster Shop Chevelle #46: 36.012
-Vin Allegretta Twist/Jakes Rod Shop Camaro #1: 36.433
-Stacy Tucker Detroit Speed 1st Gen #39: 36.633
-Brian Finch: C3 Vette Roadster #16: 36.833

It was not captured above but I believe Kyle ran a 35.142 in the run off.

That is one bad ride

Yes it was a 35.1? something I noticed Kyle shifted into second on the take-off and on the back stretch. I did the same thing and ran my quickest, clean run, unfortunately on the second time around I plowed through the cones on the last turn of the second lap. Looking at my third timed run those 3 cones, yes 3 yikes!!, killed me. Everything considered I am very pleased with the car, I should be ordering my power steering rack today :yeah: and have the L92/LS3 conversion in for next year.

Kelly is one hell of a driver, and was on R-compound tires. Given that, still one sweet Impala. He autocrosses it regularly here locally.

II Much was running on R compound tires. Not exactly. Treadwear 60 tires. I don't know how R compound compares to that.

Kelly and I were both on Kuhmo V710s, which are DOT approved R compounds with a treadwear rating of 30.

Kelly and I were both on Kuhmo V710s, which are DOT approved R compounds with a treadwear rating of 30.OK, so R-compound is a loose term for tires with treadwear ratings lower than what? 100? 200? Is R-compound always DOT approved?

I don't know tires and treadwear ratings very well, I guess.

I believe R compound only denotes the tire's construction (designed for maximum performance at the expense of longevity) and not treadwear. The DOT means it meets federal guidlines for highway use, although you wouldn't want to use them on the street for very long. There are non-DOT tires (full on race slicks), but they are not elligable in SCCA competition except for prepared and modified categories.

Hey, who was :2nd: at Year One? Not me! I was trying to "be the car", but my head wasn't in it. Everything felt good at RTTHIV! I'm just impressed that our junk could make it up there, get beat on, and make it back!

I guess my 38.xxx times aren't too bad (here come the excuses) considering the last time I was on an autox course was about 5 or 6 years ago and I'm sure the 45 series rear tires aren't the best choice for this type of driving. Regardless, my Elky made me proud over the weekend... not only did it make the 650 mile roundtrip with no issues, it completed all the events and the only time I opened the hood was to look at the engine. :)

I'm so looking forward to next year!

I thought tire tread wear ratings were not a standard number across the Board?

Its not a industry standard is what I thought.

I thought tire tread wear ratings were not a standard number across the Board?

Its not a industry standard is what I thought. They aren't, and you're correct. They are established by the individual tire mfr and are therefore somewhat subject to being "tweaked" for marketing purposes.

For example, the Bridgestone RE92 (an older tire but commonly specified as OE) carries a 160 treadwear rating. If you can stand the poor wet weather performance as the small sipes disappear even as ~1/8" main tread depth remains you can get 35,000 daily driving miles out of them without trying all that hard to do so.

On the other hand, Falken Azenis RT615's are rated 200 treadwear. You might get 15,000 miles out of them in daily driving, and they'll be about as grippy as little round rocks at that point.
BUT . . . as long as you haven't put too many heat cycles into them they will be physically hot and sticky to the touch after a single 45 second auto-X run, given that ambient temperatures are above 75° or so. I don't think that this tire is still the latest & greatest 200 treadwear tire choice, though.

SCCA apparently considers that 140 represents the lower limit of "street tire" treadwear rating, and anything below that is effectively an R-compound, whether it is specifically advertised that way or not. Today's 200's are much stickier than 20 years ago's 140 (think Dunlop D40).

Thanks Norm. I get it now. R-compound is a loose term similar to what cam manufacturers use to denote RPM ranges of their aftermarket offerings.

So, with all that said, my 5 yr old Pirellis are definitely on the sticky side. I think I've thoroughly scrubbed all the loose pebbles off the driveway into Prodigy Customs. :)

So I am getting ready to start yet another Camaro project and am undecided what suspension to use. The customer is watching cost a little and might want something no to labor intensive. So I wondered if anyone had results of the Camaro's at RTTHs? I would love for anyone with a Camaro to let us know what you had and what you lap times were. We know Kyle smoked the field, and I have used DSE stuff. I just drove FUel again after a year away and I still love the way that car works. But I might try something different next time.

I was kinda busy doing my own thing keeping family happy and doing magazine shoots. I was pretty happy with my Demon's 36.8???? considering I had never auto crossed it. So did anyone with a Camaro do exceptional? Is there a stand out?

Jason,

Not much help here, I have the quadra-link so you know what thats like. But will say hampered by manual steering and only having a stock ls1 thought it did very well considering the field of competition.

The system from Jakes Rod Shop looked good.
The C6 stuff up front and Jakes torque arm style 3-link out back.
His car really stuck to the track.

I've never seen a Schwartz Extreme Performance Full Chassis car in action , but Jeff's products are always top notch too.

I'd love to try the torque arm rear suspension.

I wouldn't sell yourself short Matt! Your stock LS1 pulls very hard and despite the lack of power steering you muscled your car around the track pretty damn good IMO! :twothumbs

Not a Camaro, but EmptyNest and I only really got one lap as I got hammered the night before and showed up hung over at noon after everyone else had 2 sets of laps. And Bill is still mad at me! Then on the first lap I was stunned to know I was to low on gas and was going dry in the first corner. My one and only lap was 38.3, know wheres near your Demon ultra fast 36.8, but if you look at the board I would put it up against any of the other first laps out there (DSE excluded). Most everyone was in the high 37s to high 38s. Vinny was hella fast as always (best 36.433) with the Air Ride / modded stock subframe car, Jake with his suspension was behind him (best 37.884), Air Ride was next with the Air Ride Veloctiy did 38 flat, Then our run of 38.355 matched Jim Mulvys custom torque arm / 21 st street machine clip car, And the real proof this stuff is not that different, Jim Grayson made it in the 38s with his very mild leaf spring Camaro made it into the 38s.

So at the end of the day, there was no real "Stand out". No one waxed the field (except Kyle and Stacy).

So it is back to what you want and what else is important to you.

Everyone in the King of the Hill comp was running 200 or better treadwear. Mostly BFG KDW TA2 and Michelin Pilot Sports. No drag radials. All those cars running close 100 MPH cars are capable of 7 flat on DR or slicks, which equates to low 11s to high 10s at 125 MPH in the quarter.
