I found this on another board & thought it was pretty cool.

Late 70's / Early 80's (I'm guessing) Fairmont
The paint job & stance sets this car off, IMO.

I actually built 3 of the Fairmont Futuras in the mid to late 80's. The last one had a 351W with a 6-71 BDS supercharger and an EFI Bugcatcher. I drove that one for 3 years as my daily transportation. It was in Car Craft and another mag I can't remember. I'll try to scare up some pictures. I was laughed at for being different. I laughed at them for being the same!
Bitchen car...where did you see it?

That car was featured in one of the Ford magazines about 6-7 years ago, IIRC. A Google search will come up with the archived article and more photos. It has a front clip from an 83-86 LTD swapped on, giving it the angled nose to match the angled tail. I saw it in person at the All-Ford Nats at Carlisle a few years ago ... very nice attention to detail.

cheers

Great quote, I feel the same way.

I saw it on a local forum called DFWstangs.com

I saw this car at Fords at Carlisle as well. It's a nice little piece.

They share the same platform as the Fox Mustang, making them great sleeper candidates.

Did Ford make the Fairmont with a V8?
if so, How hard is it to find them with a V8?

They had 302's in them at one point. Cool thing, most of the fox body mustang stuff can be used on them.

I'm building a Fairmont Futura now. Pic below. Anyway, they did indeed come with V8's but not many. Most had either a 4 or straight 6.

It's really easy to swap in a V8 as they are the first car to use the Fox platform (78 for the mont, 79 for the stang) so essentially all of the stang stuff fits, including many interior parts. If you want to swap a V8 into one though you should start with a I4 or V8 car so you have the right k member. You can use the I6 member but it requires mods and cramps on space. You can start with a I6 car though and swap in a V8 member, that's what I did.

One nice thing, they're also lighter than 'stangs...mine weighed in at 2770 with a 302/T5/8.8! Parts are hard to find though.

The car that started the thread is owned by a guy in Texas and has the LTD nose on it and a 429. He's done some great things with the suspension and yes, the details are right on. He's a really good guy.

Damn, I didn't realize they were that light. My 4 cyl. Vega only weighs a hundred pounds less.
