Hi everyone! My name is Kenny and I hail from the western part of North Carolina. I have looked on the site a few times and like what I see. Looks like the folks here act mature (at least on the forum, right :)) I also frequent vintage-mustang.com if any of you are members there. My ride is a 1970 Mustang Sportsroof. Kind of a restomod. 302 with mild mods, C4 automatic. Cosmetically nice, drivetrain good (not super fast, but decent). Next thing to do is brakes and suspension. It looks like a drag racer with the skinnys up front but I hope to make it into a bit more of a handler. My background is a little drag racing but if I get the car ready I might try my hand at autocrossing.

BTW, I see some threads about an event you recently had in Pigeon Forge, TN. That's only an hour and a half away. Is this a regular event?

Now, lets see if I can post a pic.

Greetings from a fellow mustang owner! It shouldn't be too hard to get your 70 to handle well, but what are your plans?

welcome to the board!
do you have a budget limitation for the suspension? there are a lot of cool things you can do - just a matter of time and money.

I would love to do a full out suspension with coilovers. But, that cost $$$. So, I am trying to do little things as money allows. I will probably have to stick to more stock type suspension and brakes. I was thinking about roller perches and lowering springs, and decent shocks. I have a set of KYB GR-2's on the back. Haven't gotten the front ones on yet. Others have said that GR2's on the rear and KYB's on the front actually make a good combination. Later on I am thinking of going with the Global West Upper and Lower arms and maybe Flex-a-form rear springs. As for the brakes, I have considered the Mustang Steve or Street and Track 13 inch brake kit. But that would force me to go to 17 inch wheels immediately. So, I could put smaller rotors on the front or get the wheels and tires first. Oh, decisions, decisions... Money is definately a factor. Any changes will most likely have to be incremental over time. Any feedback will be appreciated.

to do it right is definately going to be big money.

if you plan on keeping the car forever and you dont mind doing it in stages - I would focus on doing it right completely on one section at a time so eventually you will have an incredible car the way you want it instead of a patchwork quilt.

so - pick the rear suspension if you like - it will be the easiest to upgrade - you dont have to remove the motor -etc to do it. look up chasisworks and martz and see what they have. you should upgrade your rear housing at the same time - if you ever want to throw hp on it - go to a 9inch when you do this.

then you can hit the front suspension down the road when you save up the entire money for the project. I have a 68 that put a martz front end on and got rid of the shock towers. Love it.

Welcome to the site, Kenny. We're glad to have you.

BTW, I see some threads about an event you recently had in Pigeon Forge, TN. That's only an hour and a half away. Is this a regular event? Run Through The Hills is an annual event. You've got just shy of a full year to get ready. :)

Yeah, I like the Chassisworks/Total Control g-Bar and g-Link setups. I'v heard good things about them.

Already got that. :)

so are you going to pick one to upgrade and focus on it until its done correctly?

It makes sense to get things right the first time. Although I don't think that my car will ever be an over-the-top machine. I just don't see spending a fortune on the car (There's other things to put money into, and besides, I don't happen to possess a fortune). I'm planning on keeping the shock towers and going with more of a stock type front suspension.

Does anybody have any recommendations?
