Okay, it's time again to try to schedule a Cruise the Crest. It looks like September 21 may work for the usual suspects.

I was up there today with the dogs and, on the way down, passed a sweet red '63'ish Ford Falcon that sounded pretty mean. I turned and followed them up to Newcomb's Ranch to tell them about our little get togethers. The car was very nice - set up for road racing with a full cage, coil overs on the front, bracing between the front shock towers and from each shock tower to the fire wall, a nice little 302, etc., etc. In fact, they plan to run it in (I think) the 2008 La Carrera Panamericana. Hopefully they'll join the next run.

Well, one of the guys who CLAIMS to have a 1969 Camaro normally drives his Chevy HHR. Anything you want to drive is just fine. Meeting time is 6:30am at the base of the ACH in La Canada.

We'll go. I have the same problem as Carl though so we'll be in the Chevelle. It's not really a corner carver by any means :)

What's it like to be home on a weekend? It's been so long I forgot. Well ok I WAS home for labor day and spent all 3 days boating (bought a wakeboard boat earlier in the summer) but otherwise I'm gone. Some of it is fun though. Last weekend I was in Reno for the Nationial Air Races, fastest motorsport in the world. You guys think 20-30 PSI of boost is really something? Try up to 80 PSI in an engine that is 60+ years old... Go Merlin power!

I'll be in NorCal next weekend for my Grandmother's memorial service so you guys have fun without me. Oh and the following weekend I go to Brazil for two weeks for work with some fun mixed in.

Life if rough. No really, the Camaro hasn't moved since June :(

I think I can make it out there this weekend, as long as my power steering high pressure line holds. Where at the end of Angeles Crest do you all meet up?

I think I can make it out there this weekend, as long as my power steering high pressure line holds. Where at the end of Angeles Crest do you all meet up?

We meet just up the Angeles Crest Highway ("ACH") from the exits off the 210 freeway onto the Angeles Crest Highway. Heading away from Pasadena on the 210, you turn right at the end of the ACH exit ramp, and look for the group on the right. Heading toward Pasadena on the 210, you turn left at the end of the ACH exit ramp, cross the bridge over the 210 and, again, look for the group on the right.

Meeting time is 6:30am, we generally will wait 5-10 minutes for stragglers. Even if you miss us, head up (staying on the ACH) and meet us at Newcomb's ranch.

Note: The Shell station is open again, but I suggest we leave the meeting point as it is, just above the overpass, in case folks don't check the thread before showing up tomorrow.

So I'm sitting on the front porch at 6:00am this morning and here comes John. He pulls up to the house, turns the car off, and asks if I have a quart of oil. Seems that his 300 mile brand new engine build only shows 10psi idle and 25psi max oil pressure. We check the oil, add a quart (the pan holds 7 quarts) and head for ACH. The pressure gets no better. We decide that it's safer to head back to my house and diagnose. So I tried to call Mike, but do I have his phone number? Nooooooo! Sorry Mike.

So after grabbing a local bite to eat and spending several hours taking oil pressure readings at various places, the preliminary verdict is that there is an internal oil gallery plug loose/fallen out, etc.

So, out comes a brand new build to find out what went wrong. John's kinda bummed.

Sorry to hear that. We went up with a late model Firebird (John), a 68(?) Chevelle (Carl) and a 66(?) big block Chevelle (Lance).

Carl: don't worry about not having my cell number, you would have gotten my wife in North Carolina, who took my phone to try to burn off some of the accumulated minutes.

Hope the re-rebuild goes okay, but better to be safe (not run up the Crest) than sorry (towed back down).

Had a great time too, the more I drive the ACH I should be able to push it a bit more.

Mike your right my Chevelle is a 68, but I am Karl...lol

Glad I got to meet Lance, John, and Mike.

Carlc......with 400 SB cam bearing clearence can do funky things with oil pressure.

Karl, sorry about the "C." You're right: familiarity with the ACH and what's going on around the next curve is pretty critical to confidently going at a nice clip. I've literally been up and down that road more than a thousand times in or on everything from a mini-van to a 1000cc motorcycle to a Porsche Turbo-Look 911, so I've got a "slight" advantage.

Lance, I want to see the Camaro. I'm hopeful that my current build (undergoing rust repair right now) will be able to keep it "interesting" once you've "upgraded" (for these purposes) from your beautiful Chevelle to a Camaro that's been built to handle well.

Let's all tell everyone what a great drive it is, it would be nice to increase our numbers.

So, October 19 or 26?

Wow! I'll feel bad for my poor beater up there with that car. I should have known your Camaro would be exceptional based on your Chevelle. Beautiful and carefully thought out work.
