Pre pump surge tank

How big pump are you using to feed the surge tank. I will use a Walbro 255 or a bosch 044 for hi-press but how big do I need for feeding the surge tank ? Will need fuek for 400 hp ++

I'm just using a cheap universal electric pump from Autozone. My tank is just over a gallon. Works great. No problems for over a year now.
