I am always been interested in making some panels and other various parts but have always had no idea on how to make the molds to do it. I have been told that fiberglass is the easiest to work with although messy. Someone else told me about gel coating. What is the major difference in cost, skill etc...

Also, would it be better to make a mold out of fiberglass and then spray the product in gel coat? Again I am a novice and am intrigued with trying it out so I am open to any suggestions.

After you spray the gell coat into the mold, that is when you have to lay the fiberglass into it.
Musclecar did some fiberglass molding shows at the beginning of the year.

Yea, I remember that episode on Muscle Car. They were building fender flares for a Fastback Mustang track car. Very informative episode!

Talk to me.........

Do you want to use molds to be able to reproduce for others?

Are you looking to make a one off interior?

Do you plan on shattering whatever you build?

You do not require a mold to perform fiberglass work. I am only curious as the reasoning for your questions, as there are very easy methods for application in your situation.

If you want to build a dash, a console, a waterfall, even a headliner, it can all be done without molds.
