OK here they come,
First we brought the car in checked everything over and sent it out to be stripped. Check out the huge dent all the way down the passenger side and they said this was ready for paint. So we sealed the metal and now the fun begines.

THE DASH:
Here is the part I think all of you are going to really like, to make things a little different we took the stock dash and redesigned it out of metal, it still has the factory dash pad and will look factory but check out what we did.
First we have to build a metal template that will house the dash so its removable, thats right not only did we build a cool metal dash but we built it so its removeable so it would be easy to paint.

Working on the gauge cluster now, we are going to keep it stock looking but it will house way more than the factory one did. We will have a double din Pioneer DVD, Air Ride Control, Dakota Digital AC Control and Auto Meter gauges to go with the the theme of the car.

Good catch, it was there when we got the car the last shop ordered a Art Morisson Chassie for it, let me tell you a very nice part but the guy that ordered it did not know what he was doing and ordered it wrong. We would have had to rebuild the complete frame to get it under this car and the owner just wants to get it done.

Yeah the shop we got the car from had no clue on what they were ordering and if it would all work together so we had to sell alot of stuff. Only good thing was that its all name brand high end stuff so we got almost what was paif for it. Client is happy and car will be sick when done as you can see.

I know that the Morrison chassis isn't a direct bolt on deal. Did the owner want to keep the original floorpan?

As for the dash its a complete dash, not an insert but if we had enough guys that were serious about them we might be able to do an insert.

Is it required on all A-bodies to create that recess in the firewall? ( for an lSx swap)
The WidowMaker

no recess needed. i actually moved my motor 2" back and havent modified the firewall other than smoothing it.

01-02-2009, 08:01 AM
While a recess is not needed to fit the engine in the car, I would be worried about future maintenance work. In my GTO the engine is in the factory location. I've had to remove the transmission to do some service work and I can tell you that when the engine tips down in the rear, it gets very close to the firewall. If the engine was to be moved back 2" without adding room at the firewall, there will be problems when the time comes to pull the transmission.
Nice work Fesler crew!

LS7 with a 6 speed should be fun, the car is black and we are putting it together now. As for the air ride its just nice because you can adjust the car for driving, racing, in and out of trailer, speed bumps with a touch of a button. I have been doing air for over 20 years now and love it. I have done coil over but for the way I drive and set the cars up air is just better.

These bumpers are very expensive to do, first you work the bumpers out and then get them copper plated, work them out more and add the Nickle, this is where you have to brush and get them perfect and once you have them looking the way you want them you chrome them to protect the brushing. So in a way these are chrome bumpers with the nickle and copper under brushed. Better look and will last forever.
We did all the metal on this car way. Takes a lot of time but very expensive to do because of all the time it takes to prep them.
desing prowess. Here are the two details that strike me the most. First, the exhaust outlets have the same form as the taillights (which btw are awesome too). And the door panels, that's the really, really good one. It matches the design of the side window openings, only upside down. you can't imagine how much harmony this brings to the interior.
very very mean car. The only thing I dont really like are the wheels, but I can see why you chose them, they lend continuity to the overall design of the car. Another spoke pattern might have won me over, but the thing is outstanding.
Brushed chrome = win.
Nice going, Fesler.

Do you have a dash insert like the one this car has? That is the best looking gauge set-up I have seen. How much?

Any thing on the dash? I think that is a area on chevelles that is missing a good dash with 5" gauges like what is avalible for the 69
something made out of steel or aluminum. i would be all over it.

Chris -
1st of all, beautiful car, gives me something to shoot for if/when I get back on my '70. I also like the fact that someone has finally done something with those plastic taillight housings, are you selling these now? Also, love the smooth sides without side markers and the bumpers are killer! Just curious, did you guys talk about closing in the slots in the rear bumper that were used with the original jack assembly? Not picking the car apart at all, just curious, looks awesome at any rate!

Where can I pick up a dash like that? Is it a full custom job? Only thing Ive seen close to it (doesnt really compare) is the Covan dash...
any thoughts??

He said somewhere in this thread that it cost $10k+ to build that dash. Get out the AMEX!
