hmmm, I was building a G-Machine, and wanted to go a little "extreme" on the performance side of things. It won't fully live up to it's name "Extreme-G" until I run 9s in the quarter though (in my opinion).
10s aren't that extreme nowadays, lol.
Most names are just a characteristic or attitude that describe the car. What is your vision?

Although my car doesnt have a "name" really. My username here will be its plates MoeBalz, got it simply from my brothers nickname and then my nickname (were building the car together)... But it does fit the car, because I much like NineBall intend to run 9s in my PT car.

Chevrolet named mine Camaro.........

The name the car thing is something that seems to be more and more common these days. Weather it is Ole Betsy to Project This and That, names are more popular then ever before. I recently had Jessica Rabbit in our shop, OOOOOOKKKKAAAAA! Why couldn't it be Jessica Simpson? LOL! BTW, Jessica Rabbit was a all original 68 Camaro 396/375 HP car, you figure it out, I couldn't.
For years guy's have referred to their cars in female terms like saying, she is so happy when she is all clean, or I changed her oil. I always wondered if guys used the female suggestions because this meant those cars were temperamental and needy, or if the car just really got the owners rocks off?
I think one of the main reason we name our cars now is the Internet, to establish a name others can remember like Project Prodigy, instead of the black 67 Camaro with the red stinger. PHR had Project X for many years, I always remember that.
As far as how we personally came up with our cars name? Project Prodigy is my son Michael's car. Michael has been in the shop since he was literally 3 days old, almost having been bread for this, so Prodigy was only logical.
My street racer is a pretty fast street car and was built as "JustBringIt" and is pretty self explanatory.
I think the cars name is as much a statement as anything else. It can be your opinion or attitude, as much as it could be directly related to the car. I had a guy in the shop a few day's ago that thought naming your car was "gay". I suspect this means he is struggling to find a name for his car, or with his own sexuality, ROF!

Well, I have a 69 Camaro.. I had a vision of modernizing it be more like a newer car and having handle more than a normal 69.. much like a Z06 vette handles better than a regular vette..
Z06 + 1969 = Z069 :)
Although If was doing the project again the car would have more vette content. An LS6 (7?), vette front suspension.. maybe vette seats.
It was a nice catchy name .. My wife has really named my car though.. she calls it C-Rex (Camaro-Rex).. sorta like T-Rex because the car is monster when you get on it..

Easy one for me:
My car is half Camaro, and half Corvette, with a 50/50 front to rear weight distibution, hence the name:
50/50
Tyler
Radlark
02-21-2005, 03:05 PM
Well my car:
1964 Buick Skylark
I actually had the "BUWIKED" one picked out, but the beautiful 62 special beat me to that one so I came up with
Radical Skylark= Radlark
Not your average Buick with all the little custom additions!
I actaually had a a plate picked out for it:
DONTEVN = Don't even think about it! (Yes I know someone will probably steal it from me) I enjoy sitting down and looking at a car and coming up with cool plates for it! Like for instance 50/50:
IWSHUWD = I wish you would! Tito think about this one! This would be the bait for the Corvette in your rear view mirror! LOL
Hey let me know I may be able to come up with something cool for your car!

The '79 is "Cranky" whenever it isn't just "the Chevy". So named by my wife in retaliation for a mild driveability issue a couple of powertrain configurations ago.

Well, after searching for a car for 2 years with no luck, I finally found and purchased my '68 from Tyler of ATS. Then, the DMV gave us the run around with the title, so after Tyler spent many days at the DMV, we finally got the title sorted out and got the car here, 9 months later. During those 9 months, it seemed the car would never get here, and zbugger decided to name the car "Project Fantom." Thanks for the name, bug.

My BAD AST project just sorta named itself... A couple of of responses I received when talking to friends about it were "That'll be bad assed!" Bad assed + Astro = "BAD AST". I applied for the license plate last year but the DMV turned it down because "some people may concider it offensive"... :pat: Oh well, it's got a name so I'm sticking with it.

The bodyshop owner is the only one besides me that knows the name of my car...and now y'all will. We call it "Rainmaker" I am in the insurance business and I send a ton of cars to this guys shop. He in turn cuts me a deal, but that is not why I send him work. He is the best bar none.
Anyway, when I have needed work done and he is slow he would tell me to bring it in. As soon as it hit the door his shop would get slammed with business and it would take forever for him to work me in. He started a new shop and my car was taken their for a complete rebuild. Again, as soon as my car hit the door he got slammed. So we call my car the Rain Maker because when it hits the door business rains in. Good for him, not so good for me. My car is almost done so he will be loosing his good luck charm.

Well my license plate says TOOFUN. Just the way I feel when I drive it. Goes good, looks good, handles good. When I go out for a drive it is just a blast to be in. Hence TOO FUN..... and with all the changes I keep making, it is getting better every year!!

well originally it was Monsoon, as kind of a knock off of the Syclone/Typhoon name. But then I decided to change it after I went to a mini-truckin' show and saw that a lot of guys were using that name, but their trucks were all show and not much else. so it took me a bit but as i was working on the truck, we were litening to white Zombie, and Black Sunshine came on. I've always loved that song, And there is a line in it that I've aways gotten a kick outa(in my SIG) and the opening bassline...and it fit for what I was doing to my truck (although that song is about a mustang) so it has stuck, at least so far.

There's a really great Canadian band that sings a song called "Don't Walk Away Eileen" that was on the radio everytime I was working on the car. It seems like every time I fix something on teh car, something else goes. So, yes, she's tempermental and always in need of attention. I swear she runs better when there's no girl riding with me - I don't care that she's an inanimate object I think she gets jealous (I know my wife gets jealous of the car and the time I spend with her). The song seemed to cover the idea of a girl that was tempermental and a bit jealous so it just fit.

Due to the common Chevy small block valve stem oil control problem, and the fact that she's a TA (though not the "right" year for a Bandit), we call mine "Smokey".
You have to name your cars if you work on them... in order to know who you're cussing out when something doesn't go right... "Break a bolt off on me will you Smokey?!?!?! The blue flame wrench might change your attitude a bit you sombiaaaaatch!" <---- another Smokey and the Bandit reference word!

I refer to its name when the hedders didnt fit twice! when the new tranny was defective and I had to pull it out with less than 1 mile on it! when the dash took six times to cut out on a lazer cutter to get right! when it got stuck in body shop hell for 1 year! HERCULES. I just decided on it last week. I have never named any of my previously owned 8 F- Bodies or daily's that I have owned. I decided that I was going to do a theme on the '70 as I was going through my budget planning last week for the car. Not only is I going to be Pro Tour in function and style, it is also going to have a centralized theme based on the 101st Airborne Division that my father was a part of in Vietnam. He still proudly wears a baseball hat everyday with that division patch, and misc. laminate pins of badges from his uniform. he also has a small version of his "jump wings" on the hat.
The plan is to do the letters on the back where it normally has
PONTIAC, to be HERCULES, like on the HAMMER car. Oh, the most relevant part of this reply- the name comes from the C-130 Hercules transport planes that eh used to jump from in 'Nam.

My 72 442 was named, quite by accident, by my wife. We'll start with the fact that my wife is very supportive of the project. But the car is being built in my parents garage (we don't have one big enough to work in) and they are going to move to North Carolina (we live in Maryland) next year after their new house is completed. So, we need to get it done quickly. This truncated time schedule has frustrated her a bit due to my absence every weekend, and she has taken to calling the car "the other woman." So, one day I ran across a word (I get a "word of the day" email) that seemed to fit. Inamorata. It's a big ole vocabulary word that means "mistress" or "a woman with whom one is passionate." Ok, so it's a bit strange... but you have to admit it works!

I don't guess it's coincidence that many of the names people give their cars come from the entertainment business in general and from music in particular. The first car that I ever knew had been "named" by its owner was a 1st gen Corvair with "Little Egypt" painted in script on the rear fenders.
Found the shirt, and it fits a little tighter than I recall . . .

I used the last part of my name, Nestlerode, and the first part of the color, Hugger Orange. and came up with "Rode Hugger"
Plus, like Dr. evil said, it has a double meaning, both in that it hugs the road and that my name is rode and....its a homonym.... rrrriiiiigghtt.
