Well, WTF happened? Went back to town tonight & it is $3.97....?
My friend bought premium at a BP in Council Bluffs, IA today for around $3.67. I think the cheapest lead free ethanol was around $3.34. It's definitely great to see it coming down so quickly, especially premium. I can afford to drive some of the hot rods now!

I keep wondering if the price of my trash pickup will go down when the price of gas goes down ? They went from putting it on the bill as a surcharge for a few months and now it just shows up in the normal cost column. With the price rising and falling so drastically it makes me wonder if everyone is just trying to pull in a little extra cash to make up for losses in the middle that got trimmed pretty tight?
I still stand on the thought that it will be $2.75 to $3.00 in November since that is where the sales of gas went back to the volume we had made as the standard they liked. It was also when we all started saying it was cheap.
I just keep hoping that it will hold at a low price when it gets there.
Some stations were still at Saturdays prices tonight but not many.

On saturday morning it jumped from $3.62 to $3.99 at most places and some went up to $4.45 [Marathon and Mobil]
Now most are at $4.12 to $4.35.
These are all prices for 87 octane

Since oil has dropped 1/3 of the price it seems to me that gas would be in the $2 range by now, but then again here in NC it jupped over $1.40 last Friday because of IKE!!! We are hovering at $3.99-5.30 for regular around here just depends on where you want to go. Now that crude is coming down there are now other reasons for the gas price to stay high and it ain't the stations doing it. On the news last night tankers were trying to deliver to stations for $3.71 a gallon and the stations are refusing to buy it at that high of a price.

The other day when it all went up so fast, I thought that if I had put 1 weeks worth of gas in gas cans at the $3.62 price I would be able to go for a week without buying gas at the higher price. Then I thought that just doing that at anytime with most everyone doing it would bring the price down. It would have to be a surprise and not done to the point we run them dry just before. We have to start slowly at this and fill up up on the sly so to speak and then when we want to we can just glut their supply up their asses to get the price down. Imagine what they would have to explain when they say things about a shortage and then no sales at the same time. Kinda brings the rats to the daylight.
If this idea doesn't work at least you can save a little on your own.

Jim, I reckon at that point you're betting on prices continuing to rise (and by quite a bit, to justify buying early). Me? I'm betting on them to fall. We're up from 3.29 to 3.59 here, but I figure in the next week or so they'll start to trend back downwards. I'd feel silly if I stocked up at 3.59 and then the price fell. And maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the price will stay up... but with the amount of gas I buy, that 30 cent difference winds up as about 4 bucks a week. Not worth the hassle of buying in bulk.
I'm not sure I understand why the price jumped like that in areas north of here though. We had a lot of folks evacuating from Houston/Galveston come through, and they increased the demand here.. and while our gas prices increased, they didn't jump anything like that. I know the initial thought is to blame Big Oil, but why would they raise prices in NC or IL and not raise them in TX, where they know people will be taking a road trip?

We saw as high as $5.09 / 5.29 / 5.39 on the way back from the RTTH event on Sunday night in TN. That was obviously gouging. Got stuck paying $4.45 / gal in KY... $110 to fill the truck. Ouch! In response, we started a little "guess the crude closing price" on our site - if you guess the right per barrel price for next Monday's close, you get a free had and DVD. Hey, it beats nothing AND paying high gas prices!

Had to embark on a sudden trip yesterday during the heat of the gas price gouging, so I thought I'd throw out a quick report of what I saw regarding gas prices.
Fri-NoGeorgia $3.79
Sat. No.Georgia-Mostly none left or pay 4.09
Sun. No.Georgia-$3.79
Mon. Between No. Georgia through So.Carolina. From about an hour north of Atlanta through a lot of South Carolina stations were out of gas or charging up to $4.99 for Regular. Stations with no gas outnumbered the ones with gas by at least 4:1.
Numerous highway locations with 10 story electronic signs posting prices either showed nothing (they were out) or $4 range.
No. Carolina-Gas was readily available. The farther north we went, the cheaper it was. As we were driving, we heard that prices in Charlotte were out of control (up to $5.69 a gal), so we drove through that area. 2 exits past the last exit for Charlotte we pulled off to get gas at $3.69 a gallon...as much as we wanted.
Same in Virginia.
West Virginia-50/50 out of gas or reasonably priced gas $3.79-$3.89 range
Pennsil, Pensylva,...(ah screw it) PA. Prices and availability was all over the place. $3.69-$4.39 for regular or they had none.
NJ-Full Service ONLY. That means they have a real live person that, by law, must pump the gas for you. $3.59-$3.79, every station is open and has fuel...go figure.

The real point is that if they seem to think that a day makes that much of a difference on the daily price then 5 days with 50% or less of sales would make a disruption that they haven't had happen yet so the market scramble and excuses will be very interesting . It would only take 3 gallons of gas to just go to work and back for 5 days for me and add the rest of the 5 gallon gas can that everyone should have for their lawn care machines and it really is just a simple way for everyone to boycott at once and still get to where they need to. It's just 5 days. It's not buying in bulk or anything even close. It is just a very easy and realistic approach to a 5 day boycott. You also bring up the best point of all, it will only cost you a few dollars more or if you buy it right you will only save a couple of dollars. The whole thing is just about putting the shoe on the other foot for a couple of days and see what happens. If it was to go to 2 bucks a gallon I might feel something, joy, I doubt it will go cheap enough to make us look silly.
I reckon the news travels slow to us people up north and to the east that you guys never raised prices or had a problem. It seemed to me that even before it hit they were changing signs up here.

"Death of OPEC"
That's the best news we could have... well, that and the Brazil oil deposit that was discovered.
Let the Saudi's up production- all these lesser oil producers will sell at whatever price they can get-- price goes down further.
This whole thing is crap- the US is being punished due to greed on the oil producers, and our own inability to pull our collective heads out of our arses and produce (oil, products, textiles, etc) on our own--- hey, wait, isn't that what the US of A was known for? WTF??!!
Hey Hugo Chavez--> SUCK IT!

its around 3.99 here next to atlanta for 87 but i gotta use premium in my camaro AND truck so im stuck payin around 4.29 but i think diesels down to like 3.90 somethin this has become rediculous i mean it really has the government needs to step in because after buying fuel a regular middle class person barely has anything to live on i remember when i started driving i could fill up my truck for a little over $20 which isnt cheap but compared to today its almost like being free ever since i started driving prices just continue to go up and its ridiculous when the government could step in and allow for more drilling on US soil and open up our own reserves to take the prices down the price of gas is effecting everything in a negative way especially the economy and the american car companies OUR OWN government is letting detroit be beaten by ricers because they dont wanna piss the little green peace people off by allowing us to drill in the gulf, alaska, and almost anywhere in the mid west. I read somewhere tht there's more oil underneath colorado than in the entire nation of saudi arabia but they wont let us drill it.
