I understand that fender flares are considered de reiger in the pro touring world, but has anyone ever pulled off a classy widebody on a 1st gen camaro?

And I do mean classy. not cartoony

By De Reiger, I meant out of style. My French spelling might be off.

That gulf Camaro is AWESOME.

I was wondering if anyone had done anything more contemporary, such as the modern Berger 4th gen widebody, just on a 1st gen. Wider fenders, but maintaining the stock bodylines.

I had more of a "clean" appearence in mind for my "67. Just enough width to make people stop and say; Is that stock?

Thanks!

That purple Camaro is delightfully awful!

you meant "de rigueur" meaning "expected" or "in fashion", I would not say that fender flares are an expected part of pro-touring.

There was a mustang (I thought posted on here, years ago) that the guy split the fenders at the top nearly the whole length of the fender then added a strip that gradually took the fender out about 2" or so and brought it back near the door edge. Then he did it on the rear as well.

It was subtle and almost hard to notice except from an arial view.

Best part was there were no flares, the wheel openings looked stock because they weren't touched.

I thought this was one of the best approaches to flaring fenders.

Definately Bitchen.

That was what I had in mind. Not at all cheesy. I will have to brush up on my metalwork as well as my French.

Ou est le discotheque?

I remember seeing a 2nd gen comaro widebody in CC or HR back in the late 80s early 90s. Was dark green. It was sharp. I'm planning to bump the rear qtrs out about 2-3 inches on my 69 stang. not sure about how I'll do the front though.

wasn't there a dark grey track car with an insane tail fin on it that had a widebody kit?

Yeah, another car that makes me happy in my pants.

I love every aspect of this car minus the wing. By my present likings I wonder what the Malibu will look like when I'm done;)

So hostile.

Kinda reminds me of.....

I would like to apply some of these visual cues to my '67 camaro.

Not the wing.

YikeS, that purple one made me spit a little bit of supper up on my keyboard?

I was at SEMA when the Baldwin Camaro was unvieled, I absolutely loved it, others did not? It was just so damn cool and DifferenT. Smoooooooooooottttttttthhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........ ...

I liked the Baldwin Camaro at first, but it seemed a little cluttered the more that I looked at it. I like the more purpose built, clean look.

It was the shallow wheels that killed the baldwin cars for me. The renderings showed huge deep dish wheels. The reality looked gross to me.

Most of those are what I'd considered flared, versus widebodied. The Bright red one at the top w/ the silver stripe is what I consider a widebody. Most racers go flared. Flared is easier IMO, I have done both, never on a camaro though. The reason I point this out is not to be a jerk, but tpo assist w/ your internet searching. Good luck, it appears when done well, both can look good.

Agreed, flares seeem to be the most convenient way to go.

Ahhhh! it's killin' me! wanna see vengance completed.

So hot. want to touch the heinie.

I am working a friends 68 camaro right now that he built in the early 80's in his shop class in school and he put those awful fender flares on it. he wants me to do all the glass work on it seeing as to how most is falling off of it, he even did the flair thing on the truck lid. I told him I would like to buy it from him and he said yeah and the first thing ud do is take the flares off of it. I said Yep, I would Rip those bad boys off. But he likes them and hes paying me to leave them, As long as the money comes in, I would flare the whole blasted car, No mater how WRONG it is. To each his own I guess. Theres a few out there so hes not the only one I guess. Still won't sell me the blasted thing though.

Don't forget the Gale Banks Camaro. That one has almost unoticable 'wide body' front fenders. Always wanted to do mine like that. I just looked at their website and can't find anything more than a blog about the car. I'm sure somebody on here has pics. Really neat idea.
