Hey guys

SO bonnie has been on the road for a minute now and worked out most of the bugs..

but one bug that keeps coming back is this..

After the car reaches driving temp and i stop the car it has a hard time starting back up again.. it does eventually but i have to pump ALOT to get it back to running.. like pump up a truck tire with a bicycle pump alot.. but it eventually starts up.

Its a 389 and has a mechanical fuel pump and everything is practically brand new..

is it the heat that makes the fuel go back through the lines when at temp?
its running at 180/190 and no weirdness other than this.. or is all this normal?

got any ideas guys?

thanks!

I dont know if this helps, but on my 72 buick i had a fuel delivery problem. I changed the fuel filter and pump, but after driving a few miles, it would die and i had a hell of a time getting it started. I thought maybe because of its age, the tank might have rust or other crap clogging the fuel pickup in the tank. When i went to pull the tank, i found the rubber fuel line going to the tank was brittle and cracked, so in turn the pump was sucking air. I changed all the rubber line and have had no problems since.

try simply holding the throttle wide open next time you go to start it. This will allow the engine to suck the fuel through the carb, if it's there. It sounds to me that fuel isn't staying in the carb.

The other thing you could do is to turn the engine over and over without touching the pedal. Then push the pedal and see if she starts. This may require a second set of eyes and the air cleaner will need to be removed. To verify fuel is being sprayed when you press the pedal.

When you pump the pedal on a carb you're simply making the power piston spray fuel into the carb. If there's no fuel there, nothing gets sprayed. If you have to crank and crank and pump and pump, chances are, you really only needed to crank and crank and hit the pedal once. It just has to be after fuel has been put back into the carb. The cranking works the mechanical pump.

Roger's suggestions about the fuel lines is a good one too. I just replaced the rubber line from the fuel line to the pump on my TA because it was all cracked.
