What's the best spring compressor to use for a 1970 Cutlass...this is my first time installing springs and I have a set GW front and back pairs to go in.

Hey Steve, check out this thread----> https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4644
make sure you take all safety precautions, that spring stores alot of energy. Safety chain and lots of room.

Got mine at harbor freight for 7.99 and used a chain and a jack. The rears are cake and with the fronts the diameter of the long bolt coincidently slips inside the shock tower hole so you can compress from the inside. Again, use a chain or two.

For a $7.99 compresser, i'd use 2 chains and a bomb techs suite! LOL j/k

I can't believe that I am saying this but, bust the ball joint, put one foot on the spring, lower the jack slowly and hang on!!! Seriously, I just used a compressor like the one in the thread post, only way to go. Watch your hands, arms, legs, feet, you get the pic!

Actually Craig all I use now is a bent 4 ft peice of 1" solid round bar, floor jack and a chain of coarse. I'd post pictures but im afraid someone would use it incorrectly and injure themselves.
