I recently bought a 1978 Camaro with a 12 bolt with 3:73 gears and a richmond spool, will this fit in my 67 Camaro? what exactly does a spool do??

The housing won't bolt into your car. It will be a few inches wider, if it's the stock width for a '78, whick never had a 12 bolt. Last a spool is a steel or aluminum part, in the diff, that locks the wheels together solid. You should never run a spool on a street driven car. It can be done, but is not good when turning, and would probably brake an axle sooner or later. Maybe it's a stock width first gen rear stuck into the second gen. Then you could change the carrier and go! Hope this helps.
