I've been hankerin for a new project for a good 6-9 months now but only looked hard for the last month or so.

While surfing Ebay for convertibles I ran across this mutt and decided I MUST fix her and cruise her......spending as little $$ as possible!! The attraction of a big, ol' Chevy convertible was irresistable so I brought her home for $2350.

As I suspected, it's mostly cosmetic ugliness, she's really a very good fixer upper.

1966 Impala Convertible, 125,000 miles, 283/2barrel, 3 on the tree, bench seat, abandoned in a parents garage for last 24 years or so.
Long ago some kid started fixing it up while armed with duct-tape, putty-in-a-tube and some primer. (evidence was in trunk)
Trunk has no key - it hasn't been opened in a very, very long time until I crawled in over the rear seat and under the Vert stuff.

There's only one 2"-3" hole in the drivers floor-board, and 2 palm-sized holes in the trunk, otherwise, the 'pans are solid.
Oh yeah, it's rockin' an 8-track player! woot!

Now start singing the WAR song: LOW......RI.....DER drives a little slower.....

YES!!!! My buddy in HS had one like this (close to same year) and the idiot that he was, painted it flat black (rattlecan) and put HORRIBLE looking flames on it. Looked JUST as cool as you driving it. Bring that big tank down here and we'll cruise it around.

Nick Scavo's 65 hardtop went 8.40s down the quarter in street trim. Get busy matching that! LOL

Great car! You can have a real comfy cruiser with confident performance if you add the good bolt-ons. Start with brakes!

Saw one the other day with sticky Nittos on factory IMP SS rims (up to 96 caprice based) 17s.
That car rocked, had ART cool ride all the way around and was super sweet. He had it painted at local 'Maaco " shop in single stage, color sand and buff and it was very sexy, had the right rake of tires too.
And he stopped in shop I work at and asked about FI and my bolt on ABS setup, So I got all the ABS parts coming, and a full on Megasquirt setup, that is gonna run with my Add on DIS kit that uses GM DIS.
VERY COOL.
And I am jealous as I bout a 66 vert with toasty 350/pg sold it about 10 yrs after got it home and never had cash to find parts car. Wish I had it now as I have a factory 402 just iching to go into a project , but without aluminum heads it wont go into my Monza, besides I am looking at either single or TT turbo on an all forged 283 SBC!

MonzaRacer, i want to make your dream a reality, when should I come pick up that 402 so that I can transplant it into my Vert? :)

I'm only offering this because I care. ;) :lmao:
