Depends on what you want the finished product to look like. If you want factory, you have to strip and rechrome the entire assembly then mask and paint.

You can do what I and almost everyone else did and paint at home.

1-Thorougly clean the dash with a detergent using a small brush to clean all the crevices and textured areas.

2-Used SEM plastic prep to clean the dry surface

3-Paint entire housing with SEM Landau Black. This is a black closest to the factory sheen. I think I did 3-4 light coats.

4-After letting the black dry, I masked the entire rectangular edge
that goes around the main gauge panel. I used a chrome-silver paint.

5-With a silver paint pen, I did the gauge surrounds and lettering.

Chevelles.com has a ton of info on this.

dont forget plastic adhesion promoter by SEM between the prep and paint. It will help it adhere better.

alright guys I dont wont mess this up. The chevelle I have had a sweep style dash in it, meaning the dashes are differnt and shaped differnt also. I think originally the bottom of the dash was chrome and someone painted over it with black textured paint. The top tof the dash is made from plastic. can I use the SEM paint on the plastic areas also? I want to pain the entire area (top to bottom)

The entire dash was chrome then painted black at the factory to leave the chrome accents behind. You can use the same paint for the entire dash.
