View Full Version : Does this sound like the right backspacing on a mini-tubbed 69 Camaro?

Done a number of searches. I am going to measure before I buy wheels and tires as well. Probably get a Tiremount mate. Thinking of going with Michelin Pilot Sport 2s, not sure of the manufacturer of the rim (still working the budget).

69 Camaro
Front
stock sub-frame
AFX tall spindles
Coil overs
17x8 with 245/45/17 (25.67" diameter, 9.57" section width on an 8" rim)
Backspacing 4.75" or 4.875"
Rear
Mini-tubbed
G-Bar with coil overs
Stock width rear end
17x11 with 335/35/17 (26.22" diameter, 13.5" section width on a 12" rim)
Backspacing 7" or 7.125" I like the look where there is little space between the top of the tire and the wheel well, hoping to fit pretty wide tires and be able to drop it a fair amount (within reason and what the coil overs can handle)

Does that backspacing for both the front and especially the rear sound about right? I'm going to measure to be sure, but some independent ballparking is always nice

Thanks in advance!

Fronts sound right.

Rear, I don't know for sure. I was going to have my rear axle redone and have it narrowed at the same time. On 11" rims (12" total) I was looking at 5" B.S. with a 54" wide axle. I think I've seen others with a 5 1/2" B.S. with a 55" wide axle (Also 11" rim, 12" totoal). I guess you could figure out the centerlines and compare the diff to a stock axle, but I don't have those measurements in front of me.

Oh, your post says 17x11 and then later in the same line you say it is a 12" rim. 335s usually take a 12" rim, from what I have heard on this site, I don't know from experience.

Yes, mines a 69 Camaro also.

Yes, a 315 would be a better fit for an 11" wide wheel. You are on the right track. Since you are keeping a stock width rearend all of the extra width in the rear wheel will be on the inside of the axle flange.

You are correct for a stock width rear
