Okay, I should start by saying that I have a lead on a 12-bolt rear from a K5 Blazer. It's cheap. So I'm looking for info on it.

Is there a difference in 12-bolt rears? One that is more desirable? Is this one worth getting and "modding" to work in my S10? Obviously I'll be narrowing it and welding the tubes and probably getting some different flanges for it... But am I barking up the wrong tree??

I've searched and seen that some of you are saying to "buy a new one" but my problem is that I've got a limited cash-flow and by doing this in "steps" I can buy a piece here and a piece there and get everything I need over the course of a year. But if I just save my money for a year I'll be tempted to spend it. Just no self control...

Thanks for your help ahead of time!!!

Uhm... no, on the truck 12-bolt. Not a good move...

Is there a difference, yes... and there is more to it that in my simple summation. Basically, its vastly weaker than the passenger car 12-bolt due to the smaller pinion shaft diameter and ring gear thickness... and you are somewhat limited on parts. Then there are the axle shaft differences...

There is good reason that some are telling you to purchase new... or good used for that matter...

That must be why it is so 'cheap' - follows the old adage - "if it seems too good to be true...
