We are running the 24 Hours of LeMons at Stafford Speedway in Stafford Springs CT this weekend (8-23 and 24). We are looking for input from anyone that has run a LeMons race or even went to watch one.
We are car # 66 if any one local is going. Car is painted like a cow.
If you want a laugh read the rules on the LeMons web site. http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/

I have. It is the most fun at a track you can have. You and another car are approaching a tight turn at the same time. Each of you has a P.O.S. car that can't be worth more than 500 bucks. Kinda makes a difference in a tight spot when you don't care about the bodywork. Have a great time.

Charley How did they handel fuel stops and repair pit stops? Is it just as fast as you can go or do they hold the car for a set time? How long did each driver run for? How was the teck inspection?
I will post a picture of are COW CAR as soon as I get a chance.
Thanks Randy

You need to add fuel in a designated area only and need a crew member ready with a fire bottle. Pit as long as you want. Switch drivers as much as you want. It really is pretty funny. You might be broken down for a half hour or like the guy we saw witha blown up Ford V8. He went to a wrecking yard, got another and worked all night swapping engines.

Dang, they need to have one of these events in the NW. I'd be all over it... hit Craigslist for a $500 beater and run it 'till the wheels fall off!

I have competed in 3 of these events in a Chevy Caprice 9C1 X-cop car. As I told my wife of 20 years that these races are the funnest weekends I've ever had :). But don't let the $500 fool you. It cost about 10 times that to run the race with fuel, tires, travel, lodging and drivers fees. If you get the chance, go for it. Absolute blast.
Our Rubber Biscuit Racing team placed 11 out of 39 in Detroit 07 but the car took a beating. However it was pictured in Road and track and car and driver (people's curse award winner)...
Then we placed 16th out 75 at CMP in Spring 08 after blowing the motor with 5 mintues to go. The fire was exciting. Then we were leading the Toledo race this fall two hours in when we threw a rod and headed home early. We'll be back in 09!
A must event for car nuts.
Our Chevy Caprice Cop Car has survived 3 battles...most beater don't get through the first one. Size does matter!

I have a car and plan on racing in 3 events this year... MSR Houston in February, No Problem Raceway in Louisiana in June, and a second race at MSR Houston in October...
I recently checked on Craiglist.com and found a 1991 Mustang fastback with a 302 V8 and a C4 transmission in it. For a whopping $400.00!!! It's in great shape. No dents. Rebuilt motor. If you check out the videos on youtube you will notice that most of the "less than $500" cars out there are foreign cars with 4-bangers... Most of the V8's out there are in heavy Impalas and LTD/Crown Victorias (Cop cars and old Cabs...) They have to be brutal on their tires. We should have that kind of power with about 1,000-1,500 pounds less weight... We can't wait!!!
History has shown that brakes and automatic transmissions are the two biggest historical problems. Therefore, we will go through the brakes completely and we are adding a separate Transmission Cooler on the car and taking it out of the radiator to give it the best chance of staying cool. We are also cutting the bottom out of the C4 oil pan and adding a 4" wide strip to give it a really deep sump. We have also purchased a second set of tires/wheels on ebay for the car. The tires we are going to start the race with have a rating of roughly 400. The tires we will use on day 2 will have a rating of 200.
Our gameplan is to just "survive" on Saturday. If someone is really leaning on us to pass we will just let them go on Saturday. Attrition and wrecks will take care of MANY of the cars during day 1. We just want to stay out of trouble, keep our nose clean, and make laps. On day 2, with a lot less cars on the track, we will put our stickier tires on and push MUCH harder... We'll have to see if there is such thing as a "gameplan" with this kind of racing... FUN IS OUR NUMBER ONE GOAL!! :bananna2:
We are called "Team Cruz Missiles". The car will be painted "camoflauge Blue" with a 6' red "Cruz Missile" strapped to the roof of the car.
I'll post some picture as soon as we have the body doll'd up...
We have already spent a LOT of time laughing our asses off while working on this project! I have talked to guys that raced last year and they said their sides hurt after the weekend from laughing SO much during the racing...

I'm glad they choose that car for the "curse" those guys spent a ton of money - that thing was out on the track practicing the week before...
