My dad has a 68 mustang with a fuel line leak. Looks like it's leaking partially because it got crushed and partially because rust weakend it in the first place. The rest of the fuel line looks rusty enough it could have problems later and it is a very awkward shape. My question is, is there anything wrong with getting rubber line almost the length of the car and zip tieing it on? Is this a dependable way to go?

As a temporary fix maybe. As a long term solution you will want to use as little rubber line as possible. Rubber degrades with time and exposure to gas.
I would think finding a replacement pre-bent hard line for a 68 Mustang will just be a matter of a phone call and a credit card#

IIRC, NHRA tech requires less than 12" of rubber line. Or something like that.

Very temporary at best. Not only will it degrade, but it will be fair game to road debris, heat, cuts, scapes, you name it. Think about what would happen if the line got cut under the car and the gas is spraying all over your hot exhaust.

Plus, Mark is right, no sanctioning body would ever let you in the door. If you don't want to use regular hard line, go with stainless, or you can buy aluminum and bend as you like with little rubber to the regulator, carb, etc.

I just replaced all the 6 year old rubber in my line. Less than 18" total in the whole car. I would never use long runs of hose. Hardline when and where ever possible.

hey thanks guys, what if this is in the rust belt where rubber doesn't dry out as fast and steel rust much faster? Should I still use as little rubber as possible?

Yes. As little ruber as possible. If you are in the rust belt you can clear coat the standard metal lines and or stainless. I would go stainless. The will last at least as long as you guys need. THe rest of the car will rust waay before the SS lines do.

If you are worried about rust then order stainless. If you value your car or possibly your life then I would not even think of rubber unless it was an emergency just to get home to fix it right.

Nothing wrong with running modern socketless hose for fuel, oil or anything else. Its legal in NHRA and IHRA. I've been running it on my cars for years with no issues.

i dont see a thing wrong with it eithor... ive run the jegs pro-flo 350 hose for many cars. it has a outer braid and is a 2 part hose w/a steel reinforcement inbetween the 2 layers... ive used it for many supply and return lines. and the fittings look very good....... now regular plain jane rubber hose is another thing, id stay away from that

In many areas, and also at the track, running rubber hose front to back is not legal. There is a good reason for it.
