Both cars are American so either one would be a wise choice.

That's how I look at it.

Without a doulbt the Camaro. The Challenger looks prettier but the Camaro is superior in every way.

Why debate about a car that isn't even available yet or may never be? I am sick of the carrot that has been dangled for waaaay too many years on the Camaro. Go to the dealership and buy the Challenger. It is everything it should be just like the '05 Mustang was.

Buy the Challenger & when the Camaro comes out, it you like it better, trade it in..... if not, then keep the Challeger.

I want the Challenger & my wife wants the Camaro. If I play my card right I may be able to get both.

It's hard to buy a car on pictures and specs alone. Wait until the camaro is out, test drive them both, and see what you feel better fits you and your budget.

The Camaro will be in dealerships March-April 2009. There are dealers currently taking deposits (no orders til' pricing is released in December) on build slots that will sell at MSRP or lower, so no price gouging.

The challenger is a great looking car, no doubt about it. But for me, the fact that the new Camaro's Zeta II platform is likely to be the most structurally sound chassis the company currently produces (even compared to the new CTS) combined with the LS3 TR6060, Brembo brakes, an interior that isn't shared with a 300C and Charger, and the fact that it looks amazing in its own right, I'll be buying a Camaro. Oh, and I'll probably save a nice chunk of $$ in the process.

The list of reasons why the camaro is a better built and engineered car is quite long, but if the Challenger's current availability and undeniable good looks are enough for ya, then like Tony said, at least you're keeping it American. :usa:

Ugly. Uhm no. Tommrow Im going to a chevy dealer to talk to a rep and most likely put down the 500 deposit. My wife's dad works for GM and is pretty high up the chain. Hopefully I can get a decent employee's discount. Evey since I seen that car in transformers I wanted it. lol Im quite sure all of you too. My eyes are set on the V8 but i read it only takes 93 (sshhhhhsshhh). that might be a deciding factor too.

thanks

IMO neither, both are too heavy... camaro's way too ugly... buy a vette (even used) and be done with it unless you really need the back seat for kids/etc.

Did you see the new Hot Rod with the lite weight Challengers being built for the NHRA classes? They've taken a 1000 lbs. out of it.lite wt. glass, no bumper guts,no ac/heater, ect. Tribute style to the Hemi Darts and Cuda's of yore. Why not Trans Am it for a little road track time. Go bang fenders with the Year One turn-key tribute racers?

How can you say the Camaro is ugly???? Its a pretty damn good looking car. I do undersatnd the weight issue. I dont care. The purpose is DDing not for racing. The car might just tip over 4K heavy as hell but who cares. I havent had a new car since my 1998 ford taurus. lol My mom bought it. seriously she did!! lol

68sixspeed
08-21-2008, 03:53 AM
well I did use the prefix IMO... as someone with a 68 and 69, they copied some of the features a lot of us don't like on the 69 like the square pod dash, etc. Plus the tire/rim combo looks oversized, it's too 'thick' in the body height as is the challenger, and the weight thing is huge. Take the old slide rule for 1/4 mile and see what 800lbs of extra weight does. And that's just in the straight line. I was at a HPDE the other week with a very annoyed new mustang owner at how his new stang went in the corners, too way too long to brake, and was getting beat up on by mid 90's vettes, let alone the newer stuff. I don't know, I just see GM making some of the same mistakes as on the GTO's a few years ago... even with the 6 liter they are mid 14 second rides.

How can you say the Camaro is ugly???? Its a pretty damn good looking car.

you have to admit, the looks are polarizing, you either love it or hate it

me, I think it's an ugly cartoon ripoff of a 1st gen. yes, it has an amazing engine and platform, I'm sure it'll be a great drive, but I can't stand to look at it.

GM has run out of new ideas.

GM has run out of new ideas. They've been polarizing since 1970. It's not like all camaro fans are universally fans of all gens. If not for the LS1 & T56, I'd have no use for most 4th gens, lol.

At least they took a design risk and did something original while still hinting at the 1st Gen. As opposed to Mopar essentially wrapping the old body around a new chassis and making the car a bloated looking caricature because of the need to package modern structural requirements within their 40 year old skin.

08-22-2008, 04:21 AM
Thx Mr Quick. I think I made the right choice too. The challenger looks good but its no pratical for my pockets, and its looks like a 70 put on a modern day chasis IMO. To be honest I hope I get to enjoy the car before I get deployed again in the near future. I just hope the engine will be adaptable to aftermarket parts. But in doing that I will probally hinder the warranty.

How much higher is that than the stock intake? I don't have alot of spare room up top, but do have some since the hood change. Cool news, gotta start saving my pennies.

There are several companies that are working on intercooled twin-screws. One for sure will fit under the Challenger hood without mods. If it will fit in that chassis, it will fit in just about any other current Mopar platform.

I'll bet that GM, unlike the 4th gen, has left enough room to shoehorn in an intercooled supercharger. It would not take much to adapt current LS3 offerings to work.

Isn't the automotive aftermarket a great thing?

I ordered a black with white stripe, 2SS with RS, 6 spd manual on tues. Hopefully they will get them shipping as early next year as they say they will. March delivery or so.
