Which is better a x-tream velocity hat with a vic Jr or a standard pro charger hat on a super victor intake? Small block chev with 15 to 20 psi.

I'm not an expert but I do know the EV hat's function is to smooth air flow and give better distribution (Perhaps increase boost). The Vic Jr will give reasonable low and mid range torque.

The Standard Procharger hat will not flow as well as the EV with respect to the previously mentioned. The super Vic will raise your operating rpm range. More HP mid to upper rpm. As you are boosting 15 to 20 PSI you may have 3 - 6 lbs in the off-idle to 3000rpm range and would not suffer from a loss of low end torque.

My choice EV hat, super Vic and Cowl induction hood!!!!!!!!

EV hat and I think that the diff in power and tq would be minimal with either intake. Go with the EV hat though, definately!

Super Vics are TALLLL. I just squeezed this thing in today. I didn't realize it was going to stick up this tall. I did know it was going to be tall but I am just hopin an AAR hood will close on it.

The standard Procharger hat has very uneven air distribution and leads to poor cylinder to cylinder mixture distribution.

As far as the intake... my preference would be for a Victor Jr especially if the car is going to see any street miles. The Super Vic is just a dog at lower RPM because the port size & shape has rather slow velocity, the Victor Jr. will be a lot "snappier" at lower RPM. The blower will certainly help out but in light & part throttle cruising at moderate RPM the engine will feel much more responsive with the smaller Victor Jr. and I don't think it'll give up much if any power up top.

vic jr. on the way thanks

Ok so we'll skip the vic jr. Does not even come close to matching up to the intake ports. Suggestions on intake that matches up with AFR 227?

AFR recommends a Victor Junior, Super Victor, or HV1000 intake for use with the 227.

What isn't matching? Port size or location?

Very poor port match.

Are the intake ports smaller than the heads? If so, you can port match the intake to the heads; they're left a little thick at the ends for that reason.

Having the intake ports a little smaller than the head isn't really going to hurt much.

Call AFR and see what they say-- they will probably tell you as long as the intake ports are a bit smaller than the head port and you can't see any of the head sealing surfaces or intake gaskets through the intake runners to run it as-is or feel free to port match it.

Had a dart intake show up today and it looks a lot better as far as port match!

Notagn, please return to this post when you get her running. We'd love to know how the dart intake performs with the AFR 227's. I'm running AFR 195's and an Air Gap Rpm. It's snappy of idle even with 1 7/8 headers into 3 1/2 collectors and 3" flowmasters. I can break traction on 315's all under 2500 rpm if you can judge low end torque by that! I'm also wondering if I should have gone with 227's on my street car? I don't want to loose the low end as its only a 355 ci SBC.

I used a World Products single plane and got it to match up very nicely.

Started engine last week sounded great. I will have it on the dyno early next fall. Cant go wrong with a dart intake. Only concern is with the AFR heads Lots of little things no one tell you about untill your looking at the problem. Rocker set up spacers for the intake none available for sm block chev with a raised deck. (Is silicone your friend?)In the end it did run cant wait to see the numbers.

Still waiting for the numbers. Those 227's are calling me. In the meanwhile I have sold my EV hat and purchased the Pro EV hat.
Instant improvement in feel and sound. No dyno yet but definatley feels better with no re-jetting or timing adjustments.
It could be becaused previously I necked down from 4" tubing to 3.5" for the old EV hat inlet and now run 4" hat inlet to 4" tubing?

I have the car running now and she's a ripper. Tones of bottom end lots of top with 373's and a 275/50/15's. Trying to get it to the dyno in a couple of weeks. I am still not happy with AFR's costomer service after I bought the heads but they are a good head.

I can tell you straight away that the procharger hat sucks. The EV hat is way better. I had both and know we got well over 50hp difference and that was before tuning.

Are you talking about the new hat from procharger? The one that I have is at leat 3.5'' s from the top of the carb and looks alot better then their older hats.
