Help with paint

I am struggling bad. I have had a silver picked out for about a year now. I got the car in the paint shop and I am scared to death to pull the trigger. I have no idea what to paint the car. I am toying with a burgundy or silver. The car is a 67 mustang convertible, black top and interior. Help me guys and heed some feedback with this please. I am posting a picture of the car and the silver I have picked out. Any suggestions or comments are appreciated.

I too considered silver when I was having my car painted. Of course, I also considered black, Grabber green, Grabber orange, school bus yellow, midnight blue... I finally decided on the original (and somewhat less common) Bright Gold Metalic. My point? Silver seems awfully popular (and a bit passe' IMHO) these days, especially on '67-'68 Mustangs with the plethora of Eleanor wanna-bes... not that it isn't attractive, 'cause it is. Just a thought.

I think that's what has me questioning my choice. You see some many of the Eleanor cars out there right now and that's exactly why I'm second guessing the silver. Any good dark red's out there or burgundy's that some of you guys can recommend?

Not to make matters worse... but here's another silver car I ran across recently. I really like how bright this is - a little different from other silver eleanor type cars out there (at least that I've seen)... The color is House of Colors Fine Metallic Silver.

Dont worry if it looks kinda like Eleanor. Think about what color would you want, if you were buying this car new from a dealer. I was constantly changing my mind until I asked myself this question and I kept coming back to Viper red and there a ton of cars viper red and red in general. But its my car and I have to like it, not anyone else.

Paint it silver and be satisfied!

Thank Jay. I agree with you. I thought about it all last night. I kept coming back to silver every time. I was thinking of going with a lighter or brighter silver to get away from the Eleanor color. I like the silver on that 55 a lot. Thanks for the advice.

i have always like the factory 69 mustang color called royal maroon, it is very rich burgundy color, it would look badass with that silver color on the 55 as stripes on your car, just another opinion

Regardless what color you pick there will be someone else with that same color. Go with what you like and don't worry about the other ones that are the same color. As you can see in my garage, I love cortez silver myself and if I see 100 more camaros that color so what. There is a reason so many are that color-people must like it. Maroon is a good color too on a stang, especially with the right wheel combo. My vote though is silver,just decide on the shade you like.

I agre with your color choice and with your concerns.I personaly pride myself with being able to come up colors that fit my cars perfect,and its because I think so.Remember your the one driving it so you have to be happy with it regardless of who else has the same color.As for the silver if you want something diffrent taint it with pearls.thats how silvers are made to shimer more or less trust me i do alot of custom flame jobs.Maybe try blue or green pearl in it to make it pop.If you have any Q's on how todo it just email me.Its alot easier than you think

I always said I would never own a silver car. When I was 8 I saw the farm dog walk right out in front of a silver car 5 ft away from me. We were just standing by the side of the road and we could see the car coming at 70 mph and never thought to grab the dog, but he just stepped out in front of it and got hit in the head by a shiny chrome bumper. I always figured the dog never saw it and thought that most people can't see them coming either.

Then I was out shopping for a brand new Vibe and the choices of colors weren't that great and when we were looking the silver one was the only color that didn't show all of the water spots and dust from the rain the day before. So now I own a silver car. I also said I would never have a sunroof because they always someday leak, but the Vibe has a moonroff and I love it.

I really like the Mustang gold from years ago, it always made them look more like a jewel especially with real wire wheels !

If you are considering a maroon type color take a look at my 68. The paint is by Dupont. It is from their Hot Hues line of paints, and the color is called Hot Poppy. They have some other colors that are similar that also look really nice.

Thanks a lot for all the advice guys. TexasKid, I love the color of your Camaro. If I go to the red side thats my choice. I think I am going to stick with the siver though. I keep thinking about it and picturing the car in my head and it's always silver that looks the best to me. I am just going to go with a lighter shade of silver. Thanks again guys for all the help.

I like the darker reds and maroons folks have posted. Very subtle and tasteful, but still a bit edgy. :) I also like the lighter shades of silver, but I still have to raise my "Danger Will Robinson" alert. I honestly believe you can't escape the Eleanor baggage if you go with any shade of silver at all. You might be able to subdue it a bit by avoiding all the Shelby stuff, especially the stripes. But if you do any of that stuff (especially the stripes) and you paint the car silver, just be prepared for the potential Eleanor monkey on your back. Then you've just got to ask yourself whether that might bother you long term...
