My brother in law said that when he and his wife were buying a new Nissan this weekend the dealer said he already moved 5 units @ 70k sticker + 30k markup.

I got to take a close look at one last week. The owner of my dealership bought one and decided to get rid of it after a month or something ridiculous like that. It had to get smogged to be legal for sale as a "used" car in California, so I got a chance to look under the hood, check out the interior, etc.
It's nice looking for a Japanese car, and the performance is supposed to be great. Not sure if I could drive one, though.

Just another case of the Magazines pushing everything Japanese. All the numbers are so tight between the cars they compare but the Japanese car mysteriously just feels better and quicker.
Good luck fixing something with all that technology in a couple of years as opposed to an LS based engine in the Vette that a 5 year old could service. GM should be praised for building such a fuel effecient high hp engine that is so simple vs needing all the electronics and high dollar nonsense on the Japanese cars.
Sorry, nice car if you are into video games. Ask your dealer if their 18 year old mechanic knows how to fix it before spending $100k.

Just saw one last night on the freeway. Realized it looked like a riced out 350Z. Not to my liking at all.

Sure they are telepathically fast and super advanced, but 30k over MSRP for somthing that has the sound and personality of a Hoover? I love Japanese cars, but not when all the car-ness is engineered out. All that is left is a very fast, kinda dumpy looking appliance. Z06 for me, pleeze.

wow.. why so much anger?
we were told that only dealers with techs that have worked for nissan for more then 9 years could even take the 3 week special class to work on the car. People that buys these cars are not using them for DD, they are just toys. the guy that purchased this also has a GTO and a few other American cars. He just wanted to have something different. Oh and you can get the car in Az for 85k

they mark everything up now cause there's always somebody with more money than brains that will pay for it. They did it to the Z06's, they'll definitely do it to the ZR1, they're doing it to the new Challenger, and you can bet they'll do it to the new Camaro when it rolls out. Me, I'll just wait a few years till the hype fades.

They are pretty awesome cars. Skylines have been the Japanese "muscle" since their introduction. If you are into Japanese cars and their high revving, good handling, turbocharged, characteristics (sound farmiliar) then it is definitely a car to be impressed by. In regards to the price, a little steep, but look at what category the car is in. It runs with the Z06, and 911 Turbo, from what I understand (correct me if Im wrong please), at 80k, its not that bad of a deal IMO.

"the Japanese car mysteriously just feels better and quicker." That's why I quit my regular reading of car tests years ago. I got tired of winners declared on the basis of how the switches feel or the radio, hvac controls, vents, ash tray, whatever was in the wrong place. If you drive the same car day after day for years you WILL figure out how to turn on the AC. That and throwing together a comparison test where the winner costs $7,000 more than the other cars.

R&T recently did a 10car comparison over 4 days on 4 tracks. An auto-x, short road course, long road course, and an oval. There was a GTR, but it finished in 3rd behind the Gallardo LP560-4 and Viper ACR, but still came out ahead of the 911 GT2, R8, Z06, Aston Martin DBS, BMW M3, Lancer Evolution MR and Exige S 240

You should read some of the reviews about the latest ZR1 and how its actually more civil than the Z06 around town and less twitchy on the track. HOW DARE THEY engineer out the car-ness?? Seriously what does that mean? Since when is a twin turbo, awd, 480hp car not fricken sweet? $10 says in the next few months we will be collectively praising the CTS-V's smooth and effortless speed. Or perhaps will the STS be lambasted for it's "complicated" all wheel drive and electronic differentials?? Not likely I bet.
This thread seems to have as strong a bias as any of the magazines. The GTR has beat the Z06 in every single article I've read. The numbers speak for themselves. If you don't like the styling, that's fine (I don't either) but this car is a better performer and (once the markup thing cools off) a better performance value than the Z06.

Further, they also had different tires than the production units.
I saw two of them at Laguna this last weekend in the Datsun corral.
They are HUGE.
In person the outside IMO is really ugly. The interior is fantastic looking.

CORVETTE RACING'S SMALL-BLOCK V-8 WINS GLOBAL RACE ENGINE OF THE YEAR AWARD
Cologene, Germany – GM's small-block V-8 added another accolade to a long list of honors when Corvette Racing's LS7.R was named the Global Motorsport Engine of the Year at the inaugural Professional Motorsport World Expo in Cologne, Germany, on November 9. The race-prepared LS7.R engine, which shares its architecture with the production LS7 small-block V-8, propelled Corvette Racing to its fifth GT1 class victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 18, 2006. The 7.0-liter engine also powered the Compuware Corvette C6.R race cars to the 2006 American Le Mans Series manufacturers, drivers and team championships with a perfect reliability record.
"Winning this award is another milestone in the history of the legendary GM small-block V-8," said GM Racing director Mark Kent. "The championship-winning LS7.R has evolved to a very high level of development, yet it retains the longstanding virtues of compact size, simplicity, reliability and high specific output that have made the GM small-block V-8 the world's most successful production-based racing engine."
The 2006 Race Engine of the Year Awards were organized by Race Engine Technology magazine. The editors made three nominations in each of four categories: Grand Prix Engine of the Year, Global Motorsport Engine of the Year, North American Race Engine of the Year and Alternative Power Race Engine of the Year. The magazine then invited votes from 50 key race engine engineers representing the spectrum of motorsports.
"It is doubtful if ever have so many experts voted for a competition engine award," said Race Engine Technology editor Ian Bamsey. "Each of the category winners was a genuine selection by an impressive jury of peers."
The Global Motorsport Engine of the Year award was given to GM engineer Roger Allen, engine manager for Corvette Racing. Herb Fishel, former director of GM Racing, accepted the award on behalf of Allen and GM Racing at the ceremony. The Corvette Racing program was conceived in 1996 under Fishel's guidance.
"Winning this prestigious award spotlights the technical expertise of GM Racing and the world-class team of partners and suppliers who have contributed so much to the success of the LS7.R engine," said Allen. "Winning at Le Mans, winning the American Le Mans Series championships, and winning this award are all tributes to the teamwork of Pratt & Miller Engineering, Katech Engine Development, and all of the LS7.R component suppliers. On a personal level, it's an honor for me as an engineer to have designed engines that have won the Daytona 500, Indianapolis 500, Daytona 24-hour, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans."
The LS7.R is the heir to the GM small-block V-8's winning tradition that began in 1955. The small-block V-8 is the foundation of the hot rod and high-performance industries and the cornerstone of racing series around the world. GM has produced approximately 90 million small-block V-8 engines with a combined output of 27 billion horsepower.
GM Powertrain developed the production 505-horsepower LS7 small-block V-8 that powers the Corvette Z06 supercar using many competition-derived components and design features. The LS7 bristles with race-inspired technology from Corvette Racing, including titanium connecting rods and inlet valves, a dry-sump lubrication system, CNC-ported cylinder heads, a forged steel crankshaft, and a big-bore aluminum block with plate-honed cylinders.

Not according to Car and Driver. The latest production unit they tested was as fast as the first one. THey had a couple slow ones in between that Nissan claims was due to programming iteration. Do you have data to refute this?
The car's Nissan originally provided to the media were faster/more powerful than what is available to the public.
