ok so im in the works of customizing my 73 nova and in a few weeks its about time to start the DSE minitub. the rims came in and the new narrowed rear end with discs is all ready. all i need now is a gas tank. heres the car as is sits now. http://www.stevesnovasite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97995
im looking for a cheap alternative to a narrowed gas tank like what DSE sells. they want nearly a grand for it. im thinking since i've lost the amount of length i can use for the tank because of moving the leafs inward i was thinking about making the tank DEEPER. i want to cut out the spare-donut wheel area out of the hatch floor and see if i cant find a tank that will install from inside the car and lay on top. this will give me the increased depth to make up lost space. i could have swore i read something on here about someone using a 70's mustang tank that fit in the same fashion but i dont know who it was. i know my stock 21 gallon is 37'' sitting in between the leafs and now i need something about 29-30'' in legth. width can be 19'' and height(depth) is 8''. this will allow me to have max capacity. anyone have any creative ideas? no one in town will shorten my tank for me and that wouldnt allow me to utilize the spare tire area anyway. i hope someone out there has done something similar to this.
