Today I was looking at the paint on the Monte & got out some polishing compound & went at it to make it look a little better. The car has set for 5+ years, the paint is no where near perfect, but I thought I would try & make it look a little better. A lot of the little spots are coming out, but there are some areas where it looks like something dark got on the white paint & stained it. I have tried all kinds of cleaners, wet sanding, polishing compound & nothing takes it out. Will bleach do anything detrimental to paint? I am thinking about trying that to take the stain out. Doubt it will work, but I have tried everything else.

I realize you said you tried polishing compound,....but,....have you tried something like Meguiars Fine Scratch remover? (followed up with a finishing polish)

I believe it's a bit more abrasive than polishing compound but I'm not for sure. I used it with a buffer to break down orange peel.

I used Westleys Bleach White tire cleaner a few times on various white cars. Worked pretty well on certain stains

I tried Meguairs cleaner wax, turtle wax brand polishing compound & various kitchen cleaners. I didn't think of Bleach White. I don't know if I have any either, I don't have any cars with white letter tires.

I've used degreaser, formula 88, a few times...usually mixed with water though, and then soap and water right after..

There was stuff on the paint that did come off. Some sort of liquid that had dried, but it left the stain in the paint. I'll look around for powdered cleaner, I don't think we have any of that either.

Ajax or Bon-ami ??????

My neighbor used to use Bon-Ami on her '85 LTD LX once a year. It used to make it ~really~ clean, but that was her only maintainence on the paint.

I've used Castrol Super Clean to clean some stains off my old white '87 SS. It worked great, but you'll really need to compound/wax it afterward.
