a buddy of mine is selling a brand new in the crate LS6. Im not sure of the story but he bought the motor to put in his car and found out that it had an oil leak. The oil leak turned out to be a hairline crack on the passenger side right under the head. He told the factory and they sent him a new one and never requested the old motor. That was over a year ago so he is deciding to sell it for $2000. Can the crack be welded and made useable? And...is 2K a good deal?

Sounds like a lot to me. They don't just crack. Its pretty common to break the blocks while torqueing the heads. People don't clean all the water out of the hole and break it hydraulicly.

I have cracked one another way but that was because of a rod letting go at 7500 RPM :pat:

too much. I would offer him 1200-1500 and then go find another block used. Bare is usually 250-300 range. Make sure the liners can simply be cleaned up and not rebored. The you can swap all the parts off the new engine with the bad block and have a good engine.
