hey everyone, i just picked up this 69 firebird. i wanted to have my 67 ready for turkey rod run but it just isnt going to happen that car needs alot more work than i want to do to it in that little time.
the firebird is pretty solid, it needs a quarter patch panel which i already have. it should be rolling into paint sometime next month. i have already finished up the interior and i got the little 250 ci L6 running good. its got a 2-speed super turbine 300 transmission. the 5-speed just showed up today for it. i am using a t5 and a hydraulic clutch setup. that should be a pretty fun and definitely unique setup. the wheels should be here next week for mockup. i also have a complete front disc brake setup to put on in the mean time, plus work on the 5-speed swap.
i am trying to decide on a color i am leaning towards huggar orange or a metallic green. i want a bright color because the wheels are a little darker. i would really like to paint it a metallic purple but the wheels wouldnt look right with it. what do you guys think?
here is the car.

and here are the wheels that i am using. 18x9.5 out back with a 3" lip! going with a 275/40/18 tire in the back.

My first thoughts were orange and blue, but I think some kind of gray (NOT primer) would look great, especially with those wheels.

Awesome project. Really like the rims. Are they that finish from the manufacturer? The pic I found at http://www.adrwheels.ca/msport.html makes them look shinier.
Anyway...here are a couple colours I drummed up for you. Unfortunately its on a 68, but I hope it helps. The thumbnail model I used from turbosquid.com isnt very large, so I cant really make the pics much bigger than they are.

If you want me to try a few other colors for you or a different stripe/two tone mark, I should be able to. Just link a color or picture.

hey thanks alot man! i was actually thinking about a purple or green on the bottom with black or silver on the top but i think the orange and black is going to look best on the car. i have to figure out the color and width of the stripe in between though.
and the wheels in the picture you showed are chrome, these wheels are hyper black. they arent super black, but like a gunmetal color they look awesome.

Glad to help. The orange was my favorite too. Combo came from a previous daydream session I had:

What kind of stripe are you thinking? Just a pinstripe? 'Cuda kind of thick band? Like I said, just link pics and I can probably help. I don't have space for a project of my own yet (sucks to be an international uni student), so I'm all envious. :)
I really like the finish on the rims. Have you considered matching the grill and bumper finish to them?

i like that combo alot actually! but ya i am still undecided on the stripe i want something thicker than a pinstripe though, i have a picture on my computer at home ill post it was on a 68 camaro and i liked how they did it. you look pretty good at the photoshop. do you think you could do one huggar orange on the bottom and black on the top with my wheels? the picture we made was quick and doesnt look near as good as the pics you posted.

If you go the two tone hugger and black, it would look sweet if you black out the nose piece (part that is chrome in your chop) and the headlight bezels...
Just a thought!
Nice paint scheme!

Not the stripe you want, but I thought I'd give you food for thought. Thats with darkened trim including bumper.
I think a stripe like Carter did on the twotone truck @ https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46545
would be pretty cool. Or maybe a bold line with a fine line underneath.

I don't have a myspace account, sorry. :seizure: Could you upload a pic of it?
Sounds like you know what you want now though, which is awesome.
Definitely want to see pics once its done. That is going to be one sick car.

upon a second look i dont really like it. i think i like the width but i want something a little more custom. i might just not put a stripe on it and have coop pinstripe it while we are at daytona. i have been looking around the interenet and cant really find any good ideas for the strip, do you have any suggestions?

Not really. I dont know how it would look but ideas that come to mind are:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
but thats too "choppy" for my tastes.
Other suggestion would be to maybe to put a black stripe about 1cm into the orange. You'd create an orange and black stripe. Could look alright. Not sure.
Nothing really comes to mind as a "Do That" suggestion though.

well i got most of my parts in for the car. i picked up the 5-speed tonight. the centerforce dual friction clutch is on the way, i got all new bushings and ball joints for the front end. i wanted to do inner and outer tie rod ends but they are really expensive on the pontiac. if it was a camaro the price would be ALOT cheaper. ill get around to those later. i got shocks for the front and all the disc brake conversion is here. i got some lowering blocks for the back. the wheels should be here on the 21st, the tires have been here for two weeks. i got the carb rebuild kit so i am going to give that a shot. also picked up a new fuel pump, alternator, all new gaskets, and all new lights. the guy is coming to put the back window in in the morning. i got the tag and insurance today so i am ready to get it on the road. i am not going to do anything to the engine bay just yet i am just trying to get it mechanically sound. i have a guy that is going to slick the firewall down and after he does that i am going to detail out the engine bay. so alot of progress should be starting this week.

Although I'm a bit of a Firebird traditionalist, those wheels are sharp.
IMO the two tone looks to much like a Mopar scheme.
I know it's been done to death but the White with Blue stipe T/A clone with those wheels I think would look sharp.
Or maybe some sort or Metallic Graphite Grey, kind of give it a stealth look with those wheels.
