I am looking into upgrading my current engine/transmission setup on my 1971 Chevelle and had a few questions. I currently run a mild 355 with a stock TH350 and stock 10 bolt rear end.

I am looking at installing a 408 stroker from T and L Engines in NC. They say 470hp and 510tq, which is a big jump from my stock setup.

I wanted to know what I should upgrade to get a reliable street machine. I know i must strengthen the TH 350 (I don't want a TH 400, mostly because I don't want to get a new drive shaft and I have an extra TH 350 if it breaks). I was wondering more of what kind of rear end I should get and what type of suspension upgrades I should do.

Also, I am currently running 275/60 in the rear and I need air shocks to keep the rear up high enough so they don't rub. Should I get a smaller tire or keep the air shocks and larger tires? Or should I tub the rear?

Thanks alot for the help. This is an awesome site!

Turbo 350s are pretty tough! I run them in some extreme situations. So if the trans is a good unit, your set. For the rear, your going to need a 12 bolt or 9" for that power as your 8.2 10 bolt is simply weak! But there are tons of Chevelle 12 bolts around. Lots of them out of Monte Carlos from 70- 72.

A Hotchkis TVS kit will get the ride height were it should be, but you will need to do something with those wheels to get the tires to sit right
