I know it isn't the normal PT project but that is why I like it. A little off the beaten path in this realm. I bought this car (98 SVT Contour) a few months ago for a song and have been tinkering around with it since. I have plans to do a suede black paint job, new wheels (probably some blacked out 99' Cougar take offs), clean up the motor some and drop it down a bit with some fresh suspension pieces ( struts/ springs, sub frame connectors, poly bushing) and there is also a big brake kit I may end up doing. If anyone has any cool ideas I can incorporate, please suggest them. I'm curious how this car can look with a little PT flair. Thanks guys.

This is kind of the look I'm going for. These are also the Cougar wheels in black.

Make it RWD, just like those sneaky V8 Focuses running around out there.:bananna2:
Other than that, nice looking car. Looks like it'll be fun to drive the pants off.

Just curious....Flag on the outside with a skull and crossed swords and red eyes, Texas flag on the inside of the garage, and Florida plates?
A former Texas Pirate hiding out in Florida?

Born and raised in Mesquite, Navy has me out @ Kings Bay Sub base in St. Mary's, GA just north of Florida. The guy i bought it from had the FL plates on it. That pic is old.

Not from this site. I've seen a ton of these done up over at contour.org There are some nice ones out there. I was just curious what the people over at this site's take was on them.

I wonder how hard it would be to swap in the v8 from the last sho version...didnt that thing rev to like 8500 in stock form? That could be fun.

I have always liked those cars. I had a Probe GT which I think had the same motor. Keep the V6 and add a turbo , depending on the smog laws,
hopefully they are less strict than California.

Excellent project! We should start a little pro-touring euro Ford forum of our own. When I bought my XR4TI a couple years ago I looked at SVT Contours and Foci, but couldn't find one cheap enough in my area. Two years later they're downright cheap! BTW, locally there are a couple well tuned Contours and Cougars, including a '02 SVT Cougar that absolutely kicks some serious ass in his class in SCCA.

I'm pretty sure those Probes got Mazda V6s.

Mine has the 2.5l Duratech. I can swap it out for a 3.0 found in the new Taurus and Escape, among others. I've seen this done for a couple hundred bucks.

Funny, early today someone offered me a very decent '98 SVT 'tour with new brakes and tires but a blown motor for $1300 and I know where I can get a wrecked '99 Taurus with a good 3.0L for $400. I'll admit I thought about it for a second, but I've got too many projects already.

Contour SVT's are a great all round car. Cheap insurance, cheap on gas, and lots of fun to drive on a daily basis. The police will not bother you, and there is lots of space for haluing things around, plus 4 doors. I have a blast with my '99.

I have Koni's, big brakes, race pads and big sway bars. That is more than enough to have a great time at the track.. and then drive to work the next day.

It really needs new struts so that is my next mod. I wish I had the $$ for some H&R's but those will have to wait. I would also like to get some subframe connectors made for it and get the "BIG" 21mm rear sway bar.

I have done a little work on the car. I fixed the a/c, did a basic tune up (still need a fuel filter though :ssst:), re built the brakes and painted the calipers, home made short throw shifter (cut down stock handle, new knob), blacked out the chrome and rear reflector, painted my gauge surround, optimized the TB (knife edged the blade and cut down the shaft and screws), and I rewired the fog lights to come on with the parking lights instead of only with the low beams. I am saving to do new struts and lowering springs. I will run either H&R's or Intrax as they have the best drop rate in my opinion at about 1.5" progressive. It also needs new bushings throughout. This weekend I will be wet sanding and buffing it out as it has ALOT of imperfections in the paint. Slow but still progress.

Also, if anyone has any cool ideas for a front spoiler, let me know. I like the look of the ones on the new Mustangs and I would also flush mount the fog lights. Thanks
