Hey people,
I'm new to the forum but figured I'd sign up seeing how I've got a 66' Mustang Coupe Project I am going to be starting sometime in the future. I want to use a 351 Windsor, probably stroked to 401 or so and I also want to blow it. Anyone know of a good roots style blower for that motor? I've found a centrifugal set up, but you gotta have that blower that sticks out of the hood if you're doing old school American muscle. I've got my entire build in my head, now I just need to find the means of making it all fit.

Any help is appreciated, thanks guys.:twothumbs

Dyers has a kit available for 351W, listed on their price sheet here:

BDS should be able to do it as a custom build too, they only show a 460 for off-the-shelf stuff.

I imagine that the Holley / Weiand kit for the 302 could be made to work with intake spacers from Price Motorsports, and a longer belt. But it's only a 144 blower, so you would likely want one with more capacity than that for a stroker engine.

cheers

Not a blower setup, but can you imagine how cool this would look under the hood of your mustang?

Anytime I'm at the local shows, there are lots of blowers...but whenever you find a car with stacks...there's always a huge crowd.

How does it compare performance wise? That is cool looking, but I like to go fast. ITBs are kick ass none the less, but my main goal is performance. Purpose built.

Do some research on blowers vs turbos, and you will want to go turbo.
They can have so much more bottom to midrange torque. I make 470 lbft of torque at 3500 rpms with a 302. Of course there is no bolt on kit, which means some fabrication is needed which is one of the draw backs.

yeah, I know. I love a good turbo. But my daily will be getting the turbo treatment and I think a blower would suit this build better. I bet your 302 is a monster

Are you staying with a carb? I had a kenne bell supercharger on a fuel injected 302 and that thing was amazing. If you want a low profile look (not sticking out of the hood), Holley makes a few different models.

Yeah, I'm keeping her carbed. I want something with a high profile, one of the reasons I am looking for a roots blower specifically. If I wanted something small, I'd probably go with a centrifugal set up.

I really like blowers too. A Roots will give more low to mid range power, and a centifugal will give more mid to upper rpm power. You could do a single carbed blower. (http://www.holley.com/types/Small%20Block%20Ford%20-%20174%20Series.asp)

The only draw back to these blowers is they are ineffiecent. They blow alot of hot air with high boost. But you could chemically intercool with water/alcohol injection or a small shot of nitrous. They sound real mean too! That car would be a stump puller!

lots of work to do, but I'm pretty stubborn ;)
If anyone by chance knows a good hot rod shop around the Dallas area, it'd be good to know. Thanks guys
