Can I use a 67 chevelle 10 bolt on a 71 chevelle? what would be the down side? 12 bolt are high $$$ if you come across a good one. I can just build up the 67 10 bolt. THis is a daily driver and will be in back of a ls1 motor.

Thanx

If its an 8.2 10 bolt, its not really worth putting any $$ and time into it. I'd look for an 8.5.

Find an 8.5 out of a 71/72 BOP car. It will bolt in and hold decent power or can be built up as strong as a 12bolt. The axle tubes to center housing will be a weak link under a lot of power. You will want them welded by someone with a jig that knows what they are doing to make sure its still straight.

the 8.5" you want only came in '71 '72 Skylarks and Cutlass! pontiacs had their 8.2" -posi's are plentiful and gears too and they have bolt in axles so no worry about C-clips breaking and losing an axle these rears will run you into the 10's W/O breaking too.

That rear end is about 2" narrower? It also uses a different spring perch.

The rear end is narrower but the spring perch is the same, only 64-66 models had the different spring perch.
