This line I don't like though

It does little good at this juncture to rehash how we arrived at this point, because what matters now is what we, as a country, are going to do about it.

If you ignore history you are bound to repeat it. The airline industry was bailed out in the 80s and it didn't get better because it didn't change. The same can not happen with a bail out of the auto industry.

This line I like

We, as a country, cannot exist as Starbucks Nation alone. We cannot come to the table in this new global economy only as a nation of slothful consumers, a people who have completely lost the ability to create or manufacture things – and even worse, the will to muster the energy to care - because once we lose that, then the day we lose touch with the basic fabric of our nation won’t be far behind.

This transcends much beyond the auto industry and into attitudes held by people of this country. This country is lazy, plain and simple. Hannity can go screw himself with his hard working American's line, it's crap. This country is full of people who have an entitlement mentality. It sickens me to see people of all classes and from all corners of this country think they are owed anything. Worse yet are those that feel something is owed to them by people who went out and made it happen for themselves.

I have to give the CEO or President I can't remember of AT&T huge props for saying what needed to be said. He said the reason companies are out sourcing is because they can't find competent people here to do the work. Bout damn time someone told the truth.

Whatever happened to doing a job to the best of your ability and being proud of that work, even if it wasn't a "fancy" or glamorous job? No one ever said you had to do that job for the rest of your life, but if you take pride in it, it will show and people will notice. It will also carry through to everything else you do with your life. There's not a damn thing wrong with being blue collar. I've had many blue collar jobs and have many times preferred them over the white collar ones I have performed. Matter of fact, one thing I am worried about as a future engineer is being behind a desk too much. I personally must have a sense of accomplishment almost everyday of my life. I get that from doing blue collar work mainly. Give me sweat and hard work over AC and a desk almost any day. Why do I feel alone with this desire?

Worker wages has not increased along with housing, taxes and land. Lazy american workers or corporate american greed at fault? Its an old argument.

I'll look into the salmon thing. Being over here on the east coast, we don't hear anything about salmon.

That is an old argument. I can see both sides and neither is a clear cut answer.

I thought you would find this interesting. This country is wanting to be a country of information traders and computer users. The real work is being done by other countries and we will eventually not make a damn thing. Once that happens it will be the super rich and the regular folks working for 10 bucks an hour. Totally unskilled labor. It permiates all through orporate america - the dumbing down of the american worker. They don't want a skilled worker that can do several things - he is only to do the one thing he was hired for and if he does not like it - get lost.
