Anyone running a 225/40/18 on an 8inch wheel? Im trying to pick out tires for the front of my 67 camaro. I just ordered the wheels 18x8 front 18x9.5 rear and I want try and make it not rub as much as possible. The car sits pretty low and I thought if I went with a 225 instead of a 235 or 245 that it might help alittle. But I didnt know if it looks to small on the 8 inch rim? I dont want the tires rolling inward real bad like its to small for the rim. Does anyone have this tire size on a 8 inch rim that can let me know how they look. Thanks alot guys.

I have the 245\40\18 on a 18 x 8 wheel on my 67 'Bird. The sidewall is "even" with the rim lip? Fits the best in my opinion, anything narrower would like they roll inward, IMO.
I have 2" drop springs from Hotckis and Eldelbrcok shocks b/c they are pretty stiff riding and don't let the front end bounce alot. I do get the occasion rub, but I also rolled/hammered the fender lip and replaced the bolts that hold the inner fender well to the fender with button head allen bolts.
Every little bit helps. The last pic shows how low the front is, I can get the handle of my Snap-On screwdriver between the wheel and fender in I aim upwards, won't fit straight in.
Hope this helps

Glad to be of help.

Detriot Speed 3" drop leafs, QA1 adjustable shocks. I rolled the 1/4 panel lip and added a rear sway bar.
I am going to quote Steve (I think) from Twist Machine who caled it "micro-tubbing" the rear wheel wells with a 5 pound sledge.
Winter plans are to cut them and widen them so I can stuff even more tire back there.
Get no rub in back even with a adult male back there.

But that credit goes to Frank at Prodigy for helping me nail the backspacing on a 18 x 10 rim.
I was worried about rub so I have 275/45/18 and the sidewall rolls inward just a little. So as soon as I burn these up I am going to replace them with 285's or larger.

Im running 245/40/18's on my 69 and they rub bad on the passenger side. My wheels are 18x8's with 5" bs. The front has 2" drop springs.
I plan on going to 225/45/18's. These are the factory size for the BMW M3's with 18x8 wheels. The sidewalls are rolled over slightly and give it a nice look. The overall height is about the same..25.9 for the 225/45/18's and 25.7 for the 245/40/18's. I would not do the 225/40/18's unless the car is very low. You will have air gaps in the wheelwell.

Yea I checked that out, that 225/45 looks like it would work well too. Do you have any pics of that tire on an 8 inch wheel?? That looks like it might be the right way to go to gain alittle clearance.

I dont have any pics but if you look up any pics of BMW M3's you can see how they fit the wheel. Now if your plan to run rear tires like 275/35/18's then the 225/40/18's would be a good match. But if you do the 275/40/18's then you will want the 225/45/18's to match the sidewall height. I like my rear tires to be a bit tall than the fronts....something between 1/2 to 1" taller.

My rear are Toyo Proxies R1A's 275/40/18 in the rear and 245/45/18 in the front.
I too wanted to keep a little side wall height, and was more concerned with ride quality and overall look, than I was keeping near to a set overall diameter. Just changed my speedo gears in the transmission to correct it.

FYI, 225/45/18 is factory on my HHR SS with 18*7.5 rims. You need a 245 to make it look right IMHO.

If my 245/40/18's did not rub I would keep them. But....they do! So the 225/45/18's are the best fit. Like I said take a look at the BMW M3's and Nissan 350Z's with 18's. Both of them run 18x8's up front with 225/45/18's. I think they both look great.

One thing I can see to point out is that, he is looking for tires that work on his '67.
One big difference for you could just be that your '69 doesn't have such an "arch" to the wheel opening as our '67's do. I would have to check, but I'm pretty sure my front rims are running close to 5" of bs, and I only rub going over the "big" ones!

I know what your saying but if you for sure dont want any rubs when you have a car full of people(lowered car) then this would be a good route to go. Im sure the 67-68's have a bit more room due to the round design though. I also like to keep the sidewall buldge the same front to back. For wheels I have 18x8's and 18x10's. So the difference between them is 2". 1" equals 25.4 mm's. The difference between 275's and 225's is 50mm. So for me if I wanna keep the sidewall buldge the same the 225/275 combo would look ideal...jmho
