Awesome, Little Brother! Can't wait to see it. I LOVE the red. Makes me want mine done even more now, damn it . . . Talked to Jason last night and he was watching football and putting together the Art Morrison frame at the same time, lol. He has three TV's in his garage all lined up next to each other. Now that is a man's garage. He'll probably be ready for the body next month. Whoohoo! Love ya!

Thanks guys, should be insured by thursday.
first thing I noticed is I really need a valve adjustment, remembering back I set the lash at .022 cold and that should be hot so its rattling a bit, Ill do this tonight maybe, at the moment I have 4 guests staying with me untill the end of the month, 3 cousins from Amsterdam and my wifes Mom, maybe I should be hiding in the garage.

Paint was from all 04 lexus's that were Red, i did pick it out from seeing the SC.

Kick panels were made from stock pannels and covered in vinyl, speaker covers are from Audiobond.

well the insurance is becoming a problem,I took a new job 2 years ago and whent from 10 miles a day to 100, so 3 speeding tickets in the last 3 years, Grundy turned me away and Hagerty may do the same.

I know I am going to get flamed for this, but here goes anyway.
Its obvious you have quite a bit in the car. Insurance is not going to be an easy step either way you go unless your very wealthy and money is not an issue. If your like most of us, money will always be an issue. :secret:
I will probably do the same thing that I am advising you when my car is complete, and its the same thing I did when I drove my 68 camaro daily to work and back for a couple of years straight.
1. Keep your car locked up in a garage if at all possible to keep it from being stolen. If you drive it to work, make sure secuirty at your work place KNOWS you and your car. If they don't take time to get to know them. It will pay off later. Once you get that figgured out,
you need to be coverd incase you are involved in an accident. All that is required is the MINIMUM liability specified by law per state.
IF you can do all the repairs out of your pocket in case you get involved in a fender bender, take out only liabilty insurance not full coverage. WTF you say?
Ill say it again. Take out the minimum required to drive your car if you plan on driving it. If you plan on keeping the car locked up for the rest of its life and never hardly drive it, then put the max coverage on it. You will have covereage for a $50,000 boat anchor cause that to me is all it is if it can't or wont be driven.
2. call your insurance company and tell the you only want liability on the car, and the minimum allowed plus any under insured over insured you want to take out. I would not take out any comprehensive or theft if the car is going to be locked up in a garage when you are not driving it.
3. I can drive my 68 camaro any day for less than $90 month, all day long 365 days a year. Im 44. Yours will be obviously a little more than that because of the tickets, but I say you can drive that car for less then $150 a month on just insurance.
4. All your "bling" like your wheels, stereo, get covered on a seperate policy such as home owners or find a company that will insure just those items in case someone actually does jack your wheels or stereo. It happens.
5. If you have fender bender, or have a wreck in the car, dont sweat it. You have enough talent and enough people on here that can help you put it back together again. Whats a $200 fender replacement against an insurance policy that is so high you cant even drive the car?
I know you did not put 50k into it just to leave that car in the garage now did you?
Again, this is what works for me. It might not work for you and anyone else, but it works for me, and I will do the same again every time. :twothumbs

well I dont know if this will help you but I got an agreed upon value policy through Farm Bureau on my dads 66 Chevelle and my 69 Camaro. It is full coverage for a limited use vehicle however their limits are that you have a primary vehicle that you usually drive, not mileage and no restrictions on where you can drive it. The insurance is relatively inexpensive considering the amount the cars are insured for. I looked into a few of the classic car insurance companies and didnt see the benefit.

BTW that is one Bad A$# car, love the wheels, color, interior everything looks tight and neat........

Would a normal Insurance company (AAA, State Farm) cover a car like this for lets say $25,000 if something happened and you had a previous appraisal done showing the documented value? Isn’t that why people get appraisals to cover there assets if something were to happen.

Farm Bureau is a regular insurance company. The only thing they asked me for was pictures of the build and they asked me what the value of the vehicles were. I gave them what it cost me to build them because that is what I figure it would cost me to replace it. You guys all know what one of these cars cost to build so getting one insured for $50,000 to $100,000 plus is a must. They didnt have a problem with insuring the car at agreed upon value. It must be a secondary car. I myself cant see putting liability ONLY insurance on a car that cost over $50,000.

Hey Tony thanks,

well I called my Allstate agent and he will put it on my regular policy for 6 months, this will cost me twice as much but will be full coverage with an agreed value of 80K, In february of 09 Ill drop a ticket and will then be elgible for Hagerty at half the cost for 100K of coverage.

Understood, but how many times in the next 10 years do you think you will actually have to make a claim on that said insurance?
Regardless, Im glad he got it insured, and hope he gets to drive it.

no kidding... I wouldn't consider putting liability only on a $50,000 car PERIOD. If I couldn't afford insurance to cover something at that pricepoint, I would sell it and buy something that I could afford.

Gambling on 50K whenever I go out is too much for me. Especially when it only takes someone 5 minutes with a tow truck to steal a car. I know someone that had their car stolen out of a restaurant parking lot while they were eating.

I know someone that had their car stolen out of a restaurant parking lot while they were eating.

Here in Los Angeles County, the thiefs see you cruising around town, and they will follow you, hoping you park in some lot for a few minutes, worst yet a restaurant. I had a few baldys follow me one time as I was heading home from cruising around. Just to be sure they were, I turned down a street in a neigborhood I know And they sure as hell followed me. They were not real close, but they were there. I was pissed than. Drove a few blocks to A Buds house who just happen to be cutting his lawn. The baldys passed by and disappeared. Could have had a gun, could have jacked me.
I always watch that rear view mirror and you guys should to while driving these Awesome JEWELS around town..

Well I took her out for a ride Sunday:drive: and all I can say is WOW what a lot of fun, I still need to do a few things but man did it run nice and this is just with me setting the timing by ear, car pulled very hard and revs quickly, the brakes need a little work with the praportioning valve adjustment (need more back brake) I also need to play with the shocks a bit but she seems pretty flat in the corners with the little bit of quick turns I made, all in all I'm very happy, car needs to go back to the shop fopr a few more little things like charge the Aircon and fix the CD player he installed.

Smokin ride!

Question for ya...

On those kick panels, how did you handle the part that has to be sealed that is opened to the cowl? I know on the 1st gens they use a open cowl system and unless you gooped around the metal cowl opening and the kick panel vent section the carpet would get when it rained or was washed. The water water just seep in around the vent.

Is the speaker back sitting inside the opening for the vent, if so how would that hold up to the water from the cowl or heat if the vent was turned on in heat mode?

I ask because I like the looks of your set up, and do not care for lower heat vent and if no issues from water/heat then that would be cool.

rsk68
08-12-2008, 06:25 AM
Motown thanks,

2bad4ya thanks
cowl is still open and unsealed to the vent area, not sure what to do there, I did clean it all out very well and made sure there was an opening for it to drain in that area, i havnt noticed any wet carpet yet. The speaker back is in the vent opening and with the Vintage air and heat unit I no longer use the vent.

2Bad4Ya
08-12-2008, 06:59 AM
hmm, earlier this morning I hopped online to look into possiblely doing a setup like yours. My only concern was the speaker exposed to elements and a leaking kickpanel.

So I think my concerns could be solved by a simple little piece of foam...
http://www.crutchfield.com/g_762/Foam-Speaker-Baffles.html?tp=660
That would protect the speaker from dbri that falls into the cowl area, water, etc... and will give a seal around the vent opening that will keep water out of inside the car.

You should NEVER insure your classic car (especially one like Ricks) with a major Insurance company like AAA, State Farm, All State. They specialize in "Actual Cash Value" policies (like what you have on your daily driver). If they ask you for an appraisel (like State Farm will for their collector car insurance) what they're trying to sell you is a "Stated Value" policy. What that mean is, if you're car is appraised at $50,000...that $50K is only the threshold of what they'll insure your car for. If the car is ever stolen they will still open up the books to make their own determination of what your car is worth. If they determine that it's actually worth $60,000, they're only obligated to give you $50K. If they determine that it's worth $40K...then you get $40K. Stated Value policies are BAD news. You always want to make sure you are getting an "Agreed Value" policy NO MATTER WHAT.

rsk68
08-12-2008, 10:25 AM
Tony
I am in full agreement with you but unfortunatley I'm stuck untill February, now fortunatley I'm in very tight with my Allstate agent and we will be getting an apprazel for his file, my policy is for agreed value not actual cash value and I'm paying acordinally.

trapin
08-12-2008, 11:37 AM
Good deal. As long as the declaration page says, "Agreed Value" I think you're OK. But yeah, come February try to apply to one of the specialty insurance companies again.

That's a sweet ride, have fun with it. :)
