This event will be on August 9-10 at Laguna Seca. Also, this year the Trans Am Cars will be at the Historics, and it is very possible that some will be at the Pre-Historics too.

I don't have the race schedule for the Pre-Historics but Dave doesn't think there's a class. There is a "Run to the Quail" over Laureles Grade (road that leads to Carmel Valley from main entrance to Laguna Seca) sometime the following week.

I think the website is http://www.quaillodgeevents.com/pages/thequail.cgi and it has more information.

Pre-Historics is certainly a good show, almost all the cars,no spectators to speak of and best of all...admission is free.:twothumbs
Yes,T/A cars run this year and depending on what day they run this wknd, there should be a fair number of them out there.
This is a great wknd for photographing...

Oh man ... I thought YOU WERE. Gordo, you'll have to settle for photographs ...

Not sure if I'll be at the Pre-Historics but definitely will be there for the main show the following weekend. I'll have the Nikon primed and rarin' to go with all three batteries charged and the "big" lens eagerly anticipating a busy couple of days.

My schedule is incredible for the ten days of racing/car displays/parties/auctions/friends/etc.

This Friday I get the Shelby suspension aligned with the autocross setup. The "crash" bolts for additional caster will be added and that car should handle awesome.

Saturday, I may make it out to Laguna. Load Shelby in trailer for Sunday.

On Sunday, I've got an autocross in the San Francisco area ... Dave might take the Lola to an autocross event to break in the ring/pinion gears. FWIW, the Lola sucks as an autocross car ...

Monday, I work ... sigh.

Tuesday, there's the Carmel Concours and my '73 got accepted!!! I get to spend all day on Ocean Ave. drooling over some really cool automotive machinery.

Wednesday, I work ... sigh. But will try to sneak away for the Automobile Memorabilia exhibit in Monterey in the afternoon.

Thursday, Dave practices with the T70, there's a Welcome party for the Monterey Historics in the afternoon, and then a Carmel Concours party for the exhibitors the previous Tuesday that night.

Friday, Dave practices again ...

Saturday, Dave qualifies and gets to race.

Sunday, we'll go as spectators as the Lola has to stay on site all weekend. I think Sunday is the day the Trans Am cars run.

Monday the following week will be spent culling and modifying, then uploading, the gazillion photographs I took. And getting lots of sleep for the hours I missed the week before.

Cheers,
Mary Pozzi

Correction,
Thursday afternoon 1:50 group 7A I run a practice/qualifying session, the vintage Trans Am class is group 6A at 1:20 and 64-75 FIA sports racing cars 8A at 2:25. If I don't get the ring and pinion broken in before that, I'll be gridded for the race at the back! Due to my slow lap times. I just installed a new $1500. ring and pinion gearset with all new bearings, the pinion bearing alone is over $300. so I'm going to break it in very carefully!

Fri, no racing for me but other classes will run.
some of the TA cars will travel over Laureles grade to the "Quail" at 10:40

Sat AM I have a short warmup group 7A 11:20
Sat afternoon I race at 4:30

TA cars are group 6A warmup 10:55 Race 4:00pm Saturday

Sunday I display the car.

Mary,

Did Dave run the Can Am Race at Road America last month? I remember he was talking about it. Also, will you have your Trans Am car ready for next years Wine Country Classic? Go get them with the Shelby next Sunday!

Our TA car does not have the "right" history to run at Wine Country. Hopefully we will work on it this winter and finally get it running!

I didn't run at RA but did go to the race as a spectator and had a great time! It was Lola's 50th Anniversary and while it wasn't as special as I'd hoped, it was pretty nice.

Here is a link to photos taken and uploaded with my camera phone, not great quality but it shows some of the stuff I saw.

Can anyone get in to the track to watch the pre-historics? Do they just not have the grandstands open to the public? Can you just throw down a lawnchair by the corkscrew and spend the day there.

This event sounds so awesome. I may have to take a little break from studying and get down there. Will the Trans Am cars be practicing this weekend?

Pre-Historics is really a non-spectator event so up to this point,it's been a sign a waiver, get yourself a wristband and enjoy yourself:twothumbs...if that hasn't changed for this year, which I'm pretty certain it hasn't.
T/A cars should be practicing at some point this wknd...we will go in force with our ponycars and park in the paddock along side the big boys.:yeah:

Hey Mary...did you get the invite to the cocktail party at Carmel Plaza on Monday evening:secret: ?
Raina & I and Bert & Laura are going.

FYI,
This year it HAS changed, I heard people could not get in to the pits at the Pre-Historics.

John, Mary got some kind of invite, I think it's for Monday night.

I drove the Lola today at Marina autocross. No, I didn't autocross it, just drove it around the pits to break in the new ring and pinion gears. So far, so good! :)

Right you are Dave, the Ferrari Challenge had the whole paddock tied up and they were only letting 3 crewmembers/guests per race team in so we were left on the outside looking in...but we did see the Ferrari F-1 cars take the track so that was kinda exciting.

I just talked to Mary Dave and she'll meet up with us tonight for the big shin dig.

Folk's

T/Aaron gets the money shot from the Pre-Historics. A 1957 Ferrari Testa Rosa almost bites it down the 'screw. Enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qozR02Tg2j8
We thought he was going to hit...it was close! You should have seen how much dirt was inside the car. It was worse than going through the gravel trap on the outside of Turn 2 (don't ask me how I know). Aaron also got footage of the V10 F1 Ferrari's going up the hill too. Hopefully he'll post it soon!

I saw Mario Andretti drive his 1979 Lotus 79 F1 car today!
Mary got some great photos and will share them after the weekend is over.

He will do some demo laps Saturday but not Sunday. Some nice Can-Am cars are running along with the Trans-Am bunch.

The Lola is running well but I'm a bit rusty driving it. I'm having fun though. I will try and get some in-car video for you this time.

No in car video! I had the camera on and it got overheated, I guess by the header heat although the camera was up by the carbs. I think it heat soaked when I came in and I wound up with 2 zero K files instead of video!

I had the honor of being gridded ahead of Bobby Rahal who promptly passed me like I was tied to a post!!!!

He was driving the STEED Lola T310 and won the race!

I followed a nice Mark Donohue Lola T-70 in the morning for a while, and in the race caught up with a Chuck Parsons Lola T-70 after passing another Lola on the second lap.
Mary has pics at least, they won't be up for a few days though.

The car sounded great David. Another few laps and you'd have passed the T70 that finished ahead of you.

I'm still a bit bugged by the $85 fee at the gate. Though I was less troubled by it standing amidst the collection of T/A iron when they were warming their engines.

I mean Earle get's a grip in sponsorship dollars from Rolex and the rest and the car owners pay a hefty entry fee as well. Do they need to gouge spectators too? Or is it a means of keeping out the riff-raff?

Total rip if you ask me.

I had some friends in town last year and we tried going on Sat and they wanted $80/ea (no T/A cars mind you),so we said PASS and split.
Steve Earle runs both shows and I sure wish he'd learn from the Sonoma experience and get real with the pricing. There,it's like $45-$50 for the wknd pass and that includes the freebie food/wine experience and guess what...the program is free as well.

Ticket prices at the gate are $10. higher than at local "advance" outlets like the Shell station on hwy 68 South Salinas. I believe the extra $10. goes to the charity workers who man the gates and do the parking.
