Alright we are on the car full time now and its getting ready for paint so I am going to post up some build shots to where we are so you can all get caught up. I had this on a few different post so I am putting it all on one.

This car was a 1966 Ford Mustang GT matching numbers, yes that is right a matching number car that we are going to cut up and rework to make it look like it should have when Ford built it.

This car came to us with paint done ready to go back together that is all it needed. We were going to just do a nice restore on the car and we found rust so you know what that means complete car needs to come apart and start over.

If we are going to start over why not just go all out well that is what we are going to do. Every panel on this car is rebuilt or reworked in some fashion. I will post as many pictures as I can to get you all caught up and as some of you may have seen we brought this car out to SEMA in raw metal.

This car was in our booth at SEMA last year in the raw stages to show the kind of metal work and finish our shop does and to show everyone in this industry that we are not afraid to let people see whats under the paint.

Check out the build pics and let me knwo what you think and if you have questions ask.

That car is looking really good. I've never seen subframe connectors like that before, looks like a good idea. I really like the rear spoiler! Is that the rear bumper, or did you make it out of sheet metal?

This car is super strong with the way the frame is now and the rear bumper is a 66 & 67 Mustang GT built into one to get the look we have here.

Ok, I've been watching this, and keep hitting F5 to look for more updates. Looks like your done posting for the moment.

Car looks great! Really love the integrated rear spoiler, functional top scoop, the front end look great. All in all its shaping up beautifully!

One suggestion, and this is just my opinion, I would make the bottom scoop functional too, and if anything run a hose from it to cool the brakes in the rear fenderwells

I said it on the other site, but I will say it here too,

Chris, this is one of my favorite builds, My grandfather was always a mustang man and his favorite car that he restored was a 1966 fastback. I got to play around in it when I was younger and loved it. Seeing a build that incorporates the new technology with the classic build really puts a smile on my face, I hope one day I will be able to see this when its done! Keep it up!

Do you guys do work all by hand and bang tools or is there an english wheel im missing? *edit: Nevermind I see it...

crazy... I love threads like this. thanks for taking the time to post it all.

one question - it looks like all the front end panels are welded together. is that temporary, or will it be a one-piece nose?

amazing work but question how will you take the fenders off if the need should arise? just remove both and the grill as 1 piece?

I love these types of photo sequences so much. I learn a lot about metal fabrication, but of course you are left wondering about the in between steps !

For example I can see how they made most of the console, but not clear how they made the inset frame for the DVD. I think it was a separate box metal piece they welded to the opening hole, but part of me imagines they somehow hammerformed it in there too.

Or the rear spoiler, was the bottom piece formed with a rounded lip that was butt welded to the upper piece, or were the two pieces butt/overlapp welded where they formed a "point" ?

Was the 1/4 panel cut/welded at the body peak line (i thought that was a no-no) or was the cut line just a random line down the top "shelf" of the 1/4 panel ?

Everything is always shown tacked up, and then smooth. My first thought is always, there must be HOURS of grinding into every piece on the car. It looks like most stuff is MIG tacked then finished with TIG.

I don't expect you to spend time answering my questions, just posting some of the things I think about when I see these great build photos.

I'm especially impressed with the light buckets, I am constantly thinking of ways to get away from the heavy pot metal buckets on my '67 and they are just too hard a shape for me to fabricate, but all of the fiberglass options available don't fit my needs very well.

Front end wont come off now and it really is no big deal becaue you still have huge inner fenders when you take the outer off so it is still in the way for removing the engine. We smoothed it all out and is all one piece now so our client better not hit anything. lower bumper and valance come off along with the grilles but that is it.

I have to comment on this thread... First off, whom ever is the sheetmetal fabricator/welder is extremely talented! The quality of the craftsmanship is unparallel. It would be like heaven to have this guy work on my truck!

Secondly, the photos! Excellent photos/pics and posting of them! I like the detail of them all. They tell the story of what going on and what all has went into this car.

Please keep them coming!

Looks great! Seing these overall shots makes all the custom touches look a little toned down, but they all flow so well together!

Did you guys actually weld up tubes and then weld and smooth them onto an edelbrock manifold base or am I missing something ? IF so then that is an extreme amount of work I find it hard to believe. Or is that really some kind of cast setup ? If that is truly handbuilt that is amazing . Either way its amazing.

Gorgeous car but no power steering ?

Unrelated question - I notice all the top end shops "sand" the car down to bare metal and all metal surfaces have been touched. I assume this is from an air powered sanding tool. What grit are you using or is that from some kind of scotch pad ?

WOW Chris you do some awesome work at your shop.. I don't know if I missed it but what color is this going to be? Again Awesome.

Chris - is it possible to turn the throttle bodies upside down, so the fuel rail is underneath? would look smoother to me..

any way, that thing is awesome. I'd like to hear about how it was built as well.

I am also curious as to what you use to knock the sheet metal down to bare metal and I'm really digging the disposable valve covers. Are you using something like the roll-loc discs? Nice work so far and it's nice to see an early Mustang. That intake manifold looks like a cast setup for carbs like Weber DCOE side drafts. Looks like the Throttle bodies are custom made.
